It was part of the story just as necessary as Minato and Kushina’s death were to make Naruto stronger of character. The same way the Uchiha Massacre was needed to explain Sasuke dark disturbed mind. Well Hinata and Naruto too needed Neji to die to force ones and for all the Fact that Kami(Kishi) Had long ago chosen Naruto and Hinata for Love and Greatness over stuck up Sasuke and Sakura who represented the Me generation that thinks only of themselves only and no one else.

I do agree that Neji's PERMANENT death was unnecessary.
I REALLY wish Kishi used Rinne Balls just ONE MORE TIME - on the GOOD guys.
