The Shadow Control jutsu wouldn't do much to benefit him, seeing as his Six Paths cover almost every aspect of ninjutsu he needs... although, combine it with the Preta Path so that the target is immobile while it sucks out chakra would be pretty cool.

Shikamaru Nara I presume? Nagato asking a question to a young man before him, he needs to confirm what was his will and wants.
If you wish to learn of Nara's hidden ability, you have to tell me all about your clan, and about your clan ability. Its strength and weakness, and who is the famous character ?

What is the shadow strength and weakness? you haven't answer to this question yet.

Strengths
1. It is sneaky type of technique and hence can be used to surprise the opponent, also can manipulate any shadows
2. It is pretty much efficient technique, I.e. once opponent is caught using the shadow it is difficult to escape.
Weaknesses
1. Opponent needs to be brought within the range of this tech as shadow can't be stretched after certain limit.
2. light if there isn't any light no shadows so we cant use our techs

Hum... Nagato shack his head. Alright listen up.
Light is the strenght but also it weakness, you will be able to manipulate your shadow if there is light. But light also can bend your shadow or fade it away.
For example when you attack your opponent using your shadow, your opponent will able to use fire or flash bomb to bend/fade away your shadow.
Total darkness also it weakness, you can’t manipulate your shadow in total darkness. Do you understand young Nara.? Nagato shouted a little bit to make sure his student understand.

Good, lets go into practice, now focus on your chakra then channel it into your shadow beneath your feet, then try to move your shadow a little bit forward.
shikamaru listening to nageto sensei begins to channel his charka into the shadow below his feet and try's to move the shadow forward the first attempted failed, shikamaru thinking just a little more charka and it will move, putting all his might into it the shadow nudges forward slightly

Nagato hear his student shouted. then he approaching him while take out his magnifiying glass. Nagato put it into his student's shadow.
Hum...it won't even budge, whats wrong..? Then Nagato look into his students. Now I want you to gain more focus, concentrate on your shadow, not the chakra. imagine it to move forward, tell your shadow to move forwad and push yourself to the edge until it moves.
shikamaru listens to nageto sensei and starts begins to channel his charka into the shadow below his feet and try's to move the shadow forward again, instead of channelling more charka into his shadow to make it budge he concretes on imaging the shadow moving forward shikamaru closes his eyes and imagines the shadow moves forward, just a tiny little bit and shikamaru keeps saying to himself move, move, move over and over repeated in his head, shikamaru face was tense and dripping sweat down his cheeks from concreting so hard eventually the shadow budges the slightest bit, shikamaru then says exhausted hey nageto sensei did it move?

Nagato once more approaching his student and focusing on his shadow. Finally he sees it moves, the shadow move forward a few cm away.
Good, this is a good progress.
Now I want you to move it forward much further into a short range about 5 meters away, but now after you channel your chakra into your shadow you must perform the rat hand seal then move your shadow forward.

Good job, now we will advance to the next stage. I will create a clone, then you do just like the previous moves, but now make your shadow move in zig – zag motion toward my clone’s shadow.
Remember, maintain the rat hand seal till your shadow reach my clone’s shadow.
Nagato create a clone and send it toward mid range from his student.

Good, now try to infuse your shadow with his shadow. Focus and concentrate on your shadow, manipulate his shadow to become yours then bind his shadow till he unable to move.
