This has been nagging me for a while now and the recent thread about clans and names and such pushed me over the edge. Sorry if this has already been asked, but I didn't really know how to look it up with the search feature.
Do you really think there weren't any other Uchiha (and I don't even mean with the sharingan) without the Uchiha name? This pertains to other clans too (except ones like the byakugan which are obvious to spot).
Now, I think I thought this through well enough. I can even sort of understand it to a degree.
Here is how I see it. This is vaguely how I think its done in canon. I mean this could be an easy excuse to this thread
Fugaku bags himself a civilian on the side and has a quickie (use of genjutsu is a possibility) and leaves. Nine months later a baby is born, but sadly the mother dies in childbirth (sadface). Little Leaf grows up in the orphanage all alone until one day he gets into a fight on the lunch line and awakens his sharingan! Of course now the Uchiha make a claim to him and he who he is he to refuse the mighty Uchiha clan? Why would he? He was an orphan and now he's an Uchiha and half-brother to Itachi and Sasuke! Of course had he known they were going to be massacred in...5 minutes, he'd of kept his eyes shut (Itachi wasn't that fond of his foolish little half-brother and Sasuke might need his eyes sometime down the line).
So... your thoughts? Do you think Itachi had to murder others with the bloodline just to make sure or something along those lines? Are there more with the Uchiha bloodline hiding in plain sight...waiting for sharingan to appear (of course they don't know they have Uchiha blood)?
Also, how big was the Uchiha clan?
