I'm south Asian and my name is ordered (surname) then (personal name). Of course, this isn't the norm in the western hemisphere where I live and people don't understand it. I've noticed a lot of cultures do this though and even in animes, the characters are called by the surname name followed by given name and go by (technically) their ending name. Anyone else notice this trend or is my name just weird? Which one works better?

No one has noticed this trend, you're right.

Never paid too much attention to that. I like personal name first because I'm more informal and rather use a person's name instead of honorifics such as Mr. or Ms with their surname or just their surname.

I don't think it is weird, nor do I know if one arrangement is better than the other. Embrace who you are and go with the one that you prefer and feel most comfortable with :)

I don't think it makes a difference either way.
