Nagato's weird apparatus

So as I was reading through today's manga, I saw a flashback of Nagato. I was looking at the picture of Nagato and in which Konan is explaining to Naruto about Nagato's ocular power.

So I got to thinking what is this apparatus that Nagato is standing/sitting on? Is this like an antenna that was used to transmit the chakra to the Pains or does it have to do with the Gedo Masou rods that were on his back? I actually never thought about this when I first saw it on the Pain arc but anyways can anyone tells me what they think it could actually have been.

Yeah it is the base where he transmits his chakra from to the 6 paths, you answered your own question

Yeah it transmits the chakra and also I think it also allows him to walk since his legs we badly injured
