So did they not notice their son's eyes turning "purple and swirley"??? Or did Madara possibly plan Nagato's parents deaths and implant his eyes afterwards? If I'm not mistaken, Nagato did say he blacked out and didn't know what really happened to the Leaf solders. Actually that seems to be the best time and way to implant the Rinnegan in Nagato.

Madara probably put them under genjutsu and made them kill Nagato's parrents. Then with genjutsu he created an illusion in which Nagato killed the konoha shinobis, while in reality he implanted Nagato with the rinnegans. At least that's my theory.

I like that idea too but didn't he say he didn't remember killing them. What would be the point of the genjutsu? I don't think he did it.

Yeah I hope Madara put the konoha ninja under a genjutsu otherwise Madara leaving his eyes to Nagato would not make sense. If Madara caused Nagato's parents death, then atleast he planned Nagato's descent into darkness. If Madara just left his eyes to a baby how did he know that Nagato would turn evil?

Yes exactly. He must have found him and noticed his senju DNA would be perfect with the Rinnegan.
