Itachi can beat nagato easily as he is one of the most powerful genjutsu user and genjutsu is nagato's weakness and therefore, he has susanoo along with sword and shield. There was no powerful genjutsu user in leaf at time of pain's invasion and therefore jiraya also died bcz he is not a good genjutsu user as he has told himself.

It would be a close match. Itachi uses more strategy than Nagato, but Nagato is extremly powerfull. Nagato would probably win if he didn't make a major slip up in battle.

ya know its funny that people say that nagatos weakness if genjutsu yet the tyoe if genjutsu that he almost got beat by but didn't because of his powers is the same type that itachi would have got beat by if it wasn't for sasuke, only diffrence is that the sound genjutsu that almost beat itachi ions weaker than the one jiriaya used on nagato,besides nagato probably won't even get hit by it, his sensory skills give him huge advantage over itachi, oh and btw nagato is probably more strategic than itachi(though that doesn't mean more intelligent),just more strategic and tactical his invasion on konaha,and his use of his techniques during garra rescue arc shows that.

To be very honest Nagato>Itachi is very clear.
The Nagato side not only has stronger - and actual - evidence, but that evidence isn't taken out of context either. The Itachi side has none of that. Something like that makes it hard to readily believe Nagato would ever be outsmarted or overpowered by Itachi.

what makes you think nagato's weakness is genjutsu? was it because he was caught ONCE by a very strong sound genjutsu? well if you go by that logic then itachi and sasuke's weakness is also genjutsu, do you agree?
and if itachi can win by using genjutsu why didn't he use it when he faced nagato?

#1 Nagato was being controled, and I doubt Kabuto knows Nagato's powers more then he does himself, it's as if you never played hockey in your life and you gain the ability to ctrl Scott Niedermeyer. You won't be very good...
#2 Rinnegan is better then Sharingan
#3 Itachi also took advantage of the fact that he wasn't alone, he had 2 of the best with him.

Unbelievable that this thread is still active. IMO it should be closed. The two parties cannot convince each other, and there are valid arguments for both sides. But the threadmaker was a troll and the thread was a flaming war since the beginning, and Itachi cannot outpower Nagato IMO, but he can outsmart him.

edo nagato was fully controlled by kabuto hence he was just a brainless wepon. while edo itachi was lucky that shisui eyes rigged crow helped itachi to be free form kabuto's control. similarly naruto and killer bee also helped edo itachi and u gotta admit the fact.no matter how small or big, naruto and bee presence itself creats diversion for edo itachi.
hence edo itachi defeted kabuto not edo nagato bcoz edo nagato was just a brainless zombie. if kabuto wanted edo nagato to be still then even ramen guy would seal nagato hence technically edo itachi defeated kabuto controlling and using edo nagato , with the help form shisui's eye rigged crow,bee and naruto.
now about real nagato vs itachi. well nagato can like fight on for hours with his 6 path of pain, his unlimited chakra reserve and various arsenal of wepons , like gedo mazo ,paths etc helps him to fight to a bigger scale without putting his real body in harm but in contrass, itachi can only do like tsukuyomi for few second, then amatersu like 2 times in a battle and then susanoo attack for merely 10 -15 min after that he will get completely exhaused due to poor stamina and his desease . hence u guys decide can itachi ever , i mean ever even have a slightest chance to win against nagato and his 6 path of pain????????

i think itachi didn't actually overpowered nagato, because nagato has an overflowing power, and he can beat itachi by different kinds of technique combinations,

do you really think that nagato only mastered the techniques that has been shown by six paths, we should know that rinnegan as always stated can use ANY jutsu its wielder wishes,.
even Uchiha madara used the absorbtion technique , knowing that madara had only activated the rinnegan on his death, how much did he know about the rinnegans usage?
