This will be a quick theory of the SO6P jutsu. Please bear with me since I'm not that good at theories!

The user of the Rinnegan his 6 jutsu into 6 parts.

1. Animal Path- The ability to summon several different animal type summonings

2. Naraka Path- The ability to summon the King of Hell

3. Preta Path- Can absorb all chakra based ninjutsu

4. Asura Path- Can clad the user in mechanised armour and grant them various weapons

5. Human Path- The ability to read minds, but at a price at taking the victim's soul

6. Deva Path- allows the manipulation of gravity based forces to either repel or pull in an enemy

I believe the original SO6P also used these jutsu, or might have even created them himself, henceforth his name "The Sage of Six Paths". How, possibly in his battle(s) with the Juubi. If you think about it all the jutsu are perfect for fighting tailed beast. It was said by Kabuto that the Juubi could be killed and stored inside the Naraka Path and also later resurrected by the Naraka Path.

There are various ways he could've used these techniques in fighting the Juubi.

Nagato called his team, "The Six Paths of Pain" He would collect dead bodies and stick chakra receivers into them. He used the seventh path, also know as the Outer Path. With his path he could connect their eye sight, closing any blind spots.

Madara used the ability of the Outer Path to make multiple wood clones of himself all with Susanoo. Not assigning them any special Path.

Making himself the very first Jinchuriki, I believe the SO6P might have extracted the tailed beast using the Outer Path. Perhaps his Jutsu, "Creation of all Things" could be compared to the Outer Path I believe the amount of extractions that can be made are decided based upon chakra reserves. Nine isn't as many as 25, but he is dividing the Juubi into nine parts, which I am pretty sure took alot of chakra. Perhaps not being able to seal too much of the Juubi's chakra, he took it's soul with Naraka Path and stored the empty shell of the Juubi (Gedo Mazo) into the moon. Creating the moon with Chibaku Tensei.

They have the same abilities, but the Sage's abilities were on a much larger scale than Madara and Nagato's. Take into consideration Nagato's pea-sized CT and compare it to the moon.

I disagree with the title but good theory overall, I do believe the sage used the six paths to break up to juubi, but he's on a total different scale then Nagato or Madara. Jutsu's weren't even created yet, that was shear instinct he was running on, to use those techniques.
