in a 1 on 1 fight i honestly dont think itachi would even let the battle escalate to the point where nagato can use chibaku tensei. this thread is a fail and its main purpose was to provoke fans to point out the obvious that itachi does have a chance of defeating nagato. i looked at the posts and most people who are defending nagato are saying chibaku tensei this chibaku tensei that. who found the weakness to chibaku tensei? naruto and bee are soo lucky to have had itachi there.

nagato was only sealed because he was caught off guard, notice how he wasn't sealed before when he was standing still while holding Naruto and Bee, he was on guard so Itachi didn't try to seal him

Nagato could also absorb Susano'o seeing as how it is chakra based...

The anime says it "REPELS" everything. Chibaku tensei included. I realize this is anime but the manga says something similar. Also I think he could whip out the Sword of Totsuka and seal Nagato immediately. The sword and shield are not chakra items they are actual things therefore Nagato loses. Sorry but Itachi is no ordinary Uchiha BECAUSE OF THESE TWO ITEMS. He is nearly invincible.

I am going to copy and paste my comment about the Yata Mirror and Sword if no one responds to it. Seriously I don't think Nagato can hang with those two. Any other Uchiha, Sasuke or Madara pre-Edo (not including Tobi) he could beat but not Itachi, he's pretty dang unique due to those two items.
