Genjutsu does work on dead bodies.. But it depends on the kind... Paralysis genjutsu or something like that should work...While genjutsu's meant to torture and inflict pain won't


As for Nagato, Theoretically he should be able to cut the chakra to the specific path and then send it back to get it out the genjutsu.. Or disrupt it through the receiver or anything like that..
