In the end, I think the final Pain was able to defeat Naruto. It was only his father's chakra inside him that was able to release the 9 taisl seal and allow the 2nd part of the fight between the 9 tails and Nagato. Otherwise Nardo was toast.

The power was already inside of him, Naruto simply had to access it. Nagato did defeat Naruto, until he provoked the then-uncontrollable chakra within Naruto to come out of hiding.

I may be wrong, but that power was already beginning to leak out, Hinata interfering blew the doors open, allowing the Kyuubi chakra to flood him entirely.

He tapped into nothing that moment occurred because he lost it due to seeing what happened to Hinata right in front of his eyes, to tap into power he would of had to be conscious of doing so which he wasn't and to the OP Minato planted that seal when Naruto was a baby so it cannot be an excuse as to why Naruto survived and was able to continue, It wasn't Minato who beat the final Pein, wasn't Hinata who found out where Nagato was hiding it was Naruto who backtraced Nagato's location through Sage Mode and once there Nagato still unable to once he fired his rods at Naruto to control him like he figured he could at that distance so please do not try to drum up excuses because even though he had help in the end the catalyst was Naruto and only him who defeated Pein/Nagato.

More accurately, Nagato allowed himself to be defeated. I think he had enough chakra left to kill Nardo when he visited the tree. He got booked.

Lol its the exact opposite, Naruto had the chakra to kill Naruto and the intent but spared him and Naruto at that point had already TNJed him
