what's with all the forums about the same topic.... Nagato was not afraid of Itachi, Obito was not afraid of Itachi, my dog was not afraid of Itachi,etc...?

obviously Obito had a deal with him and obviously he was useful to the akatsuki, so why attack a member for no sufficient reasons? but seriously that doesn't mean Obito was not careful and cautious around Itachi and most likely held back. if he could get rid of him, then he would have done it. it's obvious from his reaction and him calling Itachi an eyesore that he wanted him out of the way.

it was a combination of the pact they had as well as the fact that Obito couldn't deal with Itachi that kept the first away from Konoha.

as for Nagato, it doesn't seem he cared for Konoha more than it was necessary to retrieve the kyubi. he probably had his own personal grudges, but he had never shown any particular or explicit hate. he attacked the place once and that did the job.

yes your right in many stances however, I was saying i only belive he left Itachi to make Sasuke stronger, cause if Obito wanted Itachi dead right away he would have ordered Pein to kill Itachi.

You guys havent noticed that there was mutual respect between them, not too sure about nagato and tobi's relationship though. But there was mutual respect from obito and itachi and nagato and itachi. The latter weirdly seems like a friendship which is weird because nagato always approaches akatsuki meetings with deva path and itachi seeing nagato wasnt a surprise to him

maybe  but then again why would Nagato do it? from his perspective killing a useful member of the organisation wouldn't it be redundant? after all akatsuki was Yahiko's legacy, irrespectively of Obito's part in all of it. i really think Obito's hands were tied in this one: he wanted Itachi out, but most likely couldn't just walk up to Nagato and say: 'kill him', he was skeptical of trying it himself or using sb from akatsuki. and as for Sasuke, Obito could had trained him himself. since he might had even trained Itachi. so, kill Itachi, keep his eyes, train Sasuke, transplant the eyes. but since things were not as straightforward Obito had to be patient and go with the flow, imho at least.

I agree with most post here. Simply put respect and keeping ones word is why Itachi wasn't killed. Itachi is awesome and extremely powerful, and may give Pein a run for his money, but he simply didn't have the stamina to keep up. So yeah Itachi could have been disposed of if need be. From Peins perspective and Itachis they were both benefiting from Itachi's presents in Akatsuki. Itachi does what he's told, and in turn keeps an eye on Akatsuki. Also the argument saying "if Itachi new Obitos secret he could have one". This same thing happened between Pein and Jiraya, and guess what Pein won. I'm not a fan of Peins but the only reason Itachi wasn't killed was because he was beneficial to Akatsuki. Also Tobi was just holding up his end of the bargain, and possibly some other reasons that haven't been unveiled. Plus if Itachi could have disposed of Tobi he would have, but Itachi knew his limits, and he knew he would lose. He only attacks people he knows he can defeat(he's never lost so its infered)

Nagato respected itachi and itachi respected nagato. The deal with tobi is that when he gave pein the order to attack konoha, you have to remember that tobi knows that Itachi is going to let himself die by sasuke hands. This is why zetsu goes over to watch sasuke and itachi fight, so that he can get sasuke after Itachi dies. This is proven when tobi holds off the eight man squad and shortly after Itachi death zetsu goes and tells tobi. It's possible that tobi kept his words in fear of Itachi's strength and also the fact that he could tell the secrets of Akatsuki to konoha.
