Right, well, i've seen alot of people claim Nagato is 'weak against genjutsu', which in itself is an incredibly stupid thing to say (nevermind using Nagato as the example), although i'm going to use this thread to look into why Nagato is actually well placed to deal with most of the genjutsu we have seen in this manga, aswell as explaining why genjutsu is hardly his 'weakness'.
So why do people say Nagato is 'weak against genjutsu'?
It all stems from
So as we can see, Nagato was caught by the most powerful genjustu in the manga, a genjutsu which is entirely audio based and is practically unavoidable. Yet some people claim that this represents Nagato's weakness (also note that, despite Pain being caught in the jutsu, Nagato himself was seemingly left unaffected by it). Let's look further into the manga.
We can see
Why is Nagato well placed to avoid/overcome most visual genjutsu?
The chances of Nagato being caught or affected by most visual genjutsu are slim to none, with many of the reasons outlined below.
Throughout this manga, there is some information which leads us to believe that Nagato is actually quite proficient in the art of genjutsu. What do we know? According to the Second Mizukage, genjutsu fittingly
"He who possessed the same pupils as the Sage of the Six Paths not only mastered every jutsu I taught him...He demonstrated the ability to achieve all 6 changes in nature, which is unheard of in a single person. He possessed power that was well versed in all mainstream ninjutsu...And had mastered all sorts of jutsu by the mere age of 10."
So, here we have a boy mastering Yin release (the main component of genjutsu) at age 10, but are considering genjutsu to be his main weakness? It's seems that Nagato was, infact, skilled enough to place Genjutsu traps
Now, there are also very powerful genjutsus, such as Tsukuyomi, which Nagato may encounter, although I believe all efforts to one shot him with such a jutsu would prove futile. Why? Here's why:
We've already covered how well trained Nagato actually is interms of genjutsu. However, before using it on Kakashi, Itachi stated that Tsukuyomi can only be broken by someone with Uchiha blood. This poses the question; does Nagato have Uchiha blood? Lets think about this:
Nagato actually possesses the Sage's eyes (Uchiha blood) and the Sage's body (Uzumaki relatives of the Senju). And considering that Sasuke was
Nagato would actually be able to avoid Tsukuyomi altogether. He is a sensor, and it has been noted that sensor ninjas have the ability to sense the chakra around them by using the Chakra Sensing Technique, this coming from Itachi's
To conclude, the notion that Nagato is 'weak against genjutsu' is clearly a misconception. Describing Pain here, Gama Rinshō is simply a great jutsu to use in order to beat him because not only can it target all of the bodies at the same time, it cannot be absorbed, avoided or repelled. But the point here is that anyone could be one shotted by such a jutsu, though funnily enough,

that Itachi himself (along with Sasuke) was caught by Mugen Onsa (Tayuya's sound based genjutsu), needing help from Sasuke in order to escape its effects and, ultimately, keep him in the match against Kabuto. So even a genjutsu master such as Itachi can be caught by such a jutsu, yet he is not claimed to be 'weak against genjutsu'. What's even more interesting is that Gama Rinshō is a league above Mugen Onsa interms of genjutsu power, and despite this, Pain was eventually able to overcome the jutsu while Itachi needed help from a

. I cannot therefore understand why Nagato is said to be 'weak against genjutsu' while there is no mention of Itachi or Sasuke's troubles. If anything, this highlights the effectiveness of sound based genjutsu as a whole. Why is Nagato well placed to avoid/overcome most visual genjutsu?

. And I ask, do you think Nagato would struggle with low level finger genjutsus and such? Hardly. We know that Nagato is adept at the use of genjutsu, considering he used it to install mental barriers and traps in his minions' minds to prevent others from accessing secret information. Now, there are also very powerful genjutsus, such as Tsukuyomi, which Nagato may encounter, although I believe all efforts to one shot him with such a jutsu would prove futile. - The Rinnegan is the progression from the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan
- Madara unlocked the Rinnegan through this route
- Madara's Rinnegan contains Uchiha DNA
- Nagato's eyes likely once belonged to Madara; Nagato's eyes were implanted
- Therefore, Nagato has Uchiha DNA

Itachi's Tsukuyomi with just a 3 Tomoe Sharingan, can anyone say, with a straight face, that Nagato would be unable to break out of Tsukuyomi while possessing the Rinnegan (a dojutsu 3 levels higher than Sasuke's at that point)? I think not.Nagato would actually be able to avoid Tsukuyomi altogether. He is a sensor, and it has been noted that sensor ninjas have the ability to sense the chakra around them by using the Chakra Sensing Technique, this coming from Itachi's

. Logically speaking, Nagato could actually fight with his eyes closed, and therefore avoid all eye contact with his opponent. Tsukuyomi is actually a non factor in fights between Itachi and Nagato. To conclude, the notion that Nagato is 'weak against genjutsu' is clearly a misconception.
