Lol, to me this is still one of the funny arguments that happen:

"Goku is a bad father, because he was away (for 10 years) from his family." "He put gohan in danger". "He doesn't have *** with chichi everyday". "He wasn't there when Goten was born".

Then a rational person brings up soldiers.. then the same person making the above claims switches his tone to:
"No, the soldiers have to defend our country", "Even if they go on purpose to hone their skills and be on the battlefield, they still protect us" , "they can't be with their families"

Total time Goku spent away from his family: 15 years at most (though i calculate only 10 years).

He has spent PLENTY of time and moments with his wife and kid to be a good husband and a father. His parenting style is different from the typical people who complain about him not spoiling his kids.

Do you agree with the myth of Goku being a bad father? or do you disagree?

It's a popular misconception by people who don't understand the whole point in Goku's purpose as protector.

During the times of peace, the five years following marriage he was at home and didn't even leave their side to even visit the others. Then his alien brother Raditz came and shit was let loose. He sacrificed himself to save the earth. Then he had to train for the saiyans. Then frieza blew up namek and he was waiting in yadrit for his ship to be fixed. Finally came back to earth... stayed for 3 years with his family. Androids... Conceived goten.

Then realised only gohan could stand a chance of stopping cell. While piccolo disagreed at the time... It proved to be the right option. Goku is never one to gamble on his fiends lives let alone his own son. Goku actually takes the burden from them all... frieza, raditz, king piccolo, Ginyu force etc etc.

He felt that the earth was safer without him so he stayed dead. Come back to save it. Lived with his family long enough to become a grandpa. Leaving with uub isn't all that crazy. There's nothing to say that he didn't visit. He was training uub to be another protector. And yes he loves a challenge. What saiyan doesn't.

The fact that Gohan spoke so HIGHLY of his admiration for Goku should speak volumes to the haters.

He's a fine dad but he's not really much of a father, he had little input on either of his children's growth and development. Providing for them and raising them are two different things. Goku provided in spades for his family and friends and the planet but he still put much of the raising on chichi and the others while he got ready to protect everyone again. He may not be the worst father but he's not the best. He's essentially how Naruto is now, focusing his attention on keeping everyone safe at the expense of time with his children.

Tough love, letting his children attain power on their own like himself through real battle experiences, training, protecting...
Only a close minded fool would say Goku is a bad father. He saved the ground they walk on several times. How could he possibly be called a bad father.

bad father?, lol nope

only bad thing was when he let two children carry the fate of the whole universe , and he alone could solo fat buu if he tried.

but oh well, he also refused to fuse into GOD vegito-sama cause of his "saiyan pride", a foolish thing that came in the wrong situation.

But Gohan looks up to his father immensily. And i think Boruto just needs to grow up, not really Naruto's fault.

True and I was gonna say something about Toriyama never having Gohan complain but I wasn't positive he never did training with Piccolo.

He's not really a bad guy, so I don't think he's too bad of a father. Besides, what is Toriyama going to do, show us his home life? Hell no this is DBZ. He spends time with everyone we're just not going to see it. He was dead during a lot of Gohan's key moments of "becoming a man," if people are going to go there.

He is a bad father, he purposely leaves to go train and only shows when something bad happens which always ends up coinciding with his return/visit.

Do we know this? Like off panel and everything? He has instant transmission, I doubt he ignores his family. Why would Chi-Chi stay with him if she never saw him. She'd get with Yamcha at that rate

Well the fact that they say they haven't seen him in X amount of years every time he shows up is good evidence that he's barely there.

So which part ya talking about?? He died against cell, was away for 7 years.

He was with Gohan from all the way he was born till the raditz crap. And then went off to train.. Now if he doesn't train no more earth and everything goes boom boom.

And against total time he at most sent is about 15 years, not much.. considering how much time he spent with his family. He can be a bad father if his kids look up to him like a role model.

Only time really recall him leaving for training is for uub.

So he father Gohan til he was four. Died, for a year, came back got injured and Gohan left for Namek a few weeks before. Beat Frieza and then refused to return to Earth for a year and a half then trained with Gohan and Piccolo for three years. Then died again and stayed away for seven. And finally left with Uub.

Piccolo was more of a father.

Goku was dead for nearly the whole time. Piccolo was more of a father. If my dad died, of course someone else would be my father figure.

beat frieza and trained.. it was stated from what i recall that he couldn't come.. and when he was able to and got himself all trained up he cameback. rofl.

"piccolo was more of a father".. sure considering that goku spent more time with gohan.. but hey you know what let your fan-fiction judge manga canon bro.

Goku is a fine father when he's there. He's usually not though. When he isn't dead, he's training. Even when he can come back he opts to remain dead to train or fight and then die again. Sure he's a great protector, self-sacrificing, and pure hearted, but his parenting input is minimal. If you look at Kohlberg's stages of moral development he is a stage 6. He puts the world above himself and his family; sacrificing himself multiple times. No one is saying that he isn't a good person. They are just saying he is an absent parent.

But absent parent =/= bad parent.
