Normal afternoon just like any other day. My state never realy gets hurricanes, well bad ones. So i, like the rest of the east coast, didn't take hurricane sandy seriously. A thought that almost cost me my life.
Monday comes, its 5 o clock. Sandy is projected to hit us in a few hours. I am on my xbox, playing like I dont have a care in the world. Time goes by and thats when I had my first trip to hell.
Wind picks up, at first I pay no mind to it. Its just wind I thought, nothing serious. But things did go serious. And it wasn't just wind. Water started to fill my house without me even realizing. I'm playing COD and out of nowhere a tree, well just a huge branch, comes crashing down through my window, almost crushing me. I quickly react and get out of the way. running downstairs to inform everyone what is happening in the house. Thats when I see the water quickly rising. Holy F%$%^ I thought, this is serious. I cant swim-_- nethier can anyone else in the house.
I had to act fast, we got what we could, as fast as we could, and got out of the house. We couldn't drive because there was so much water, that getting in a car would only be asking for death. SO we walked to the nearest evacuation site we could find.
Man what a troop. As we progresses through the wind and heavy rain, we were met by resistance. at one point there was a part where a hanging cable looked like it would fall in the water at any minute, shocking everyone in the area, then at another part, gushing water was crashing down. the only thing we could do was take a detor through the water.
I think even If I was the best swimmer in the world, five more minutes of being in that water, and we would have been swept away. It was an insanely strong current. Was so much work just getting down the street. But, we made it after some time, and not a moment too soon. We make it to the elementary that was holding other people in the cty as well, falling to the ground because of little energy. Emmediatly emergency crews rushed to help us and get us dry clothes and blankets. As u can imagine we were freezing our butts off. We stayed in the school for two and a half days before finally getting in contact with my aunt in another state, which is where we are now.
My experience with this hurricane has taught me several things. One, I no longer take for granted the power of God. If the news says its serious, LISTEN. It just might be you that gets hit, just like I did.
And two, that heaven and hell is right here in this world. I personally think I went through hell these past few days and Im sure there are people who can agree with me.
Haven been back home yet but I here they have most of the water out....hopefully that tree is out of my window-_-
