Ok, this theory is split into 3 main sections; Jiraiya and the 2nd Shinobi war & Nagato, Kakashi Gaiden and then all converging to prove what I believe to be Minato's age. If you're too lazy to read the whole thing, skip to the end and read the timeline summary.

28 yrs before the start of the series, Jiraiya was 22. This is because at the start of the series,the Sanin were 50 years old, and this is confirmed by the manga as it was said that tsunade was 50 years old. Jiraiya was 51 before the time skip, and he turned that age over the course of the series.

Jiraiya fought Hanzo when Nagato was 7/8. It was after that battle that they found Nagato, Yahiko and Konan as orphans I believe.

Nagato was actually around the same age as Minato - 1 year older MAX. He was 10 when jiraiya left them on their own (this was when Nagato had mastered all 5 nature transformations), and apparently, from the timeline, Jiraiya would have gotten back within the same year and began training minato, who was also 10 years old.

This all means that nagato was... (10 +24 + 4 =) 38 years old when he died.
- 10 years from Jiraiya's departure.
- 24 years until the series started.
- 4 years and some months until when Pein was defeated.

When Jiraiya started to train Minato, he was 26, and Minato was 10. This was only a few months after he'd left the orphans. This is because Minato graduated from the academy at age 10. Now, assuming that jiraiya became his teacher afterwards, it would mean that Jiraiya became Minato's teacher 24 years before the series started. He would've served as his jounin teacher for no more than 7 years after that point. We know it should be no more than 7 years after that because by the time Minato was about 17 he was a Jounin and was head of Team Minato. About 4 years later, he was fighting in the times of Kakashi gaiden.

About 13-14 yrs before the start of the series, Minato fought in the 3rd Shinobi war; this makes him 21 at that time. He is appointed hokage shortly after at 21. This is shortly after Orochimaru fled the village, and also the time when Jiraiya decided to pursue him. 12 years before series start (1 yr after he is appointed) minato dies at about 22 in the Kyuubi attack.

Remember, Naruto is 12 when the series starts, and we know that Minato died very shortly after naurto was born. Therefore, 24-12 = 12 years + 10 years (Minato's age at the time jiraiya became his teacher assuming he triainned right out of the academy); 22 years old.

I honestly didn't read the whole thing but you did a lot of research though. so im going to say your right. I figured he as early 20's anyways but never exact age.

IMO if you die in your 20's though people don't get to see what he was like at old age. chances are he only would have gotten wiser and accumulate more knowlege of justu

Look mean nothing in an anime. Trying to gauge an anime character's age by their look is extremely flawed. Also in part 1 you do know that kakashi was 27 right?

well kakashi and guy been rivals for years, they were young mid 20s late 20s young. I didnt see kakashi as younger than 25 at the start of the series either. i know looks isnt everything, but alot of times that what we first go by even though its hard cause he wears a mask.
