Ok before you read it, I just want to say this is my Theory, no one told me. BUT it may already exists.
My theory is that, the more books you read and the more you write, the better you common sense will get.
This has mainly to do with learning new words, when you read books, you naturally learn new words and also challenge your brain.
Here is what I am trying to say
When you know a lot of words, you can think about and communicate about lots of things.
However if you only know 2 words (like "car,dog") That will be the only thing you will be able to think about and say, If you know 20 words, you can somewhat communicate at some times, however if you know 90 words it will get easier and better, you than can expand your thinking from "car,dog" and go onto more complicated things. Why is it that MOST proper English teachers seem to have great common sense and a high Iq? Because they read a lot and learn new words, as well as write which can than practices their self expression.
I don't know if it seems too obvious , also sorry if you did not understand what I am trying to say >_<
