As I've stated before, I was disappointed with the ending of the manga and for some time now have been working on a fanfiction that changes it as well as adds many things throughout the series in part 2 as well as 1. The other half of the reason for me doing this is to practice writing again as I have a new idea for a fictional novel I wish to develop.
These are my two prototype chapters for an arc inspired by Kishimoto's words of wanting to create a few more mission arcs before the Chuunin Exams and Orochimaru's rebellion. I haven't really gotten much of an idea of where I want it to go with it, as far as plot and location is concerned, but it does include some dialogue between the characters you may or may not find nostalgic, as well as some foreshadowings for new plots I wish to develop later on.
You may critique away, just don't be BASHful about it lols. Try to keep an objective mind. Ideas are welcome as well, though I rarely use others' ideas when it comes to writing fiction. I'm narcissistic like that lols. If you can, rate it with a star from 1 to 5. Thanks.

Chapter 1: Children Playing in the Snow
Naruto: wakes up and slaps alarm clock.
Familiar Voice: Yo, Naruto-kun!
Naruto:..That voice..*remembers faded memories*
Kakashi: It's time to get up kiddo. No more of that lazy dropout business, now.
Naruto: Oh, Kakashi-sensei, it's only you..
Kakashi: And who else would it be? Sasuke and Sakura are already on the road, hm. Smiles
Naruto: Wa!? Oh man! Sorry! I slept in again!
Kakashi: Well it's not exactly a surprise so I'm not really upset, hehe. Besides, I'm sure you had a lot to take in last night..
Naruto:...
Kakashi: It's okay, so did I. We can try to block terrible things out, but there are some things you just can't change or completely bury. These you have to learn to live with and over time they'll make you stronger.
Naruto: But..it isn't fair..neither of them had a chance at life like we did. They were both slaves to despair..Even though Zabuza did terrible things, it just doesn't feel right the way he went. I..I wanted to save him..and Haku..but I couldn't do anything.
Kakashi: You're young, you have to give it time.
Naruto: But how..
Kakashi: Shinobi have existed for a thousand years, Naruto. Don't think you're the only one who has ever felt this way. It's just the way the world is. You have to think positively and suck it up or you'll never make it. Trust me, I know.
Naruto:..?
Kakashi: Of course, if you can hang on to that dream of yours, maybe you will find a way to save the lost souls of so many shinobi.
Naruto:...*puts on headband* Right!
Kakashi: Perhaps this was the hells for Zabuza and Haku, and now they have moved on to Nirvana, where they can be happy and at peace for all time.
Naruto:..Maybe..or maybe they reincarnated into something else...Maybe..maybe we'll see them today.
Kakashi: It's possible. Smiles
Sasuke: Hey, loser, what's takin you so long? Fall behind again? Heh..
Naruto: Sa..Sasukeeeeee! jumps and runs after him
Sasuke: Takes off. Please, you'll never catch me with that kind of speed...though it looks like you've almost obtained the right determination.
Naruto: We're all so lucky we came out unscathed. *That's good. These guys are cool. I..never want to be alone again...
Sakura: slaps Naruto upside the head
Naruto: ooouch!
Sakura: Naruto, you idiot! Kakashi-sensei and Sasuke-kun had to go all the way back because you're a lazy ass as usual!
Naruto: Sorry!...I'll never do it again, just don't hit me!
Sakura: Sigh..but seeing you like your normal self somehow makes me feel better. Smiles. punches Naruto's shoulder. Naruto falls.
Naruto: Duaah!
Sakura: Oh..yeah..sorry..
Sasuke: Sighs..
Kakashi: Hehe.
Naruto:..I wants us to always be together no matter what.
Chapter 2: A Wolf and his Cubs
Sasuke: So what's the agenda today? Back to the leaf, right?
Kakashi: Not quite.
Sasuke:...

Sakura:...
Kakashi: Seems The Third wishes for us to handle another mission...and this time, it's purposely A class...
Naruto:!
Sasuke:...
Sakura: ulp!
Kakashi: Hehe..just fooling
Naruto: Daaa! don't do that to us! Haven't you ever heard of Peter Rabbit!?
Kakashi: Of course. Except that in this instance, I'd be the wolf and you'd be the rabbit.
Sakura: giggle
Sasuke: Heh..
Naruto:....pouts
Kakashi: No, our mission isn't an A, though you shouldn't take the one below it lightly either.
Naruto: listening
Sasuke: listening
Sakura: jotting down notes
Kakashi: B ranks are generally either heavy escorts plagued by rogue or village shinobi or reconaissance missions where we are ordered to take info from the rogues back with us without them noticing us.
Sasuke:..If we do accidentally go noticed, what do we do? Kill?
Sakura:...
Naruto:..hmm
Kakashi: Don't worry, it's nothing that extravagant. No, I don't want you killing anyone. You're still too young to possess the skills and handle the stress of those types of missions and they're mostly handled by the Anbu anyway. No, either escape or render them unconscious. Only kill if absolutely necessary like with the demon brothers. If you meet a foe at or beyond your level, either run or use all your might against him and show no mercy until I find you.
Sakura:..Wa..what if you can't?
Kakashi: That's why we're going in pairs this time. However, we still have a few days until the mission starts. During that time, I want all of you to hone your skills and study the jutsus you wish to adopt. Sakura, you're a genjutsu type, so I want you studying that field in your scrolls as much as you can. I'll provide you with a few animals to practice on as well as some preferences.
Sakura:..Yes, sir!
Kakashi: Sasuke, you're a ninjutsu type, as well as skilled in taijutsu and Bukijutsu and once your sharingan matures, you'll likely become quite skilled in its genjutsus. However, until that time, I want you to work on your taijutsu techniques and create some variety with your katon and weapon combinations.
Sasuke:..Right!
Naruto:...And...what about me?
Sakura:...
Sasuke:...
Kakashi: Heh, Naruto, you have some amazing dormant chakra in you, but it seems you can only unlock it when you're under stress. We need to teach you how to hone that and bring it out normally through harmony and focus, not rage. That way, you may be able to adopt some new jutsus yourself, on a regular scale rather than just all those clones, which use up your stamina. Unfortunately, you lack skill in genjutsu, which would be the best way to develop it.
Naruto:...frowns
Kakashi: But don't fret. Anyone here can see you're becoming exceptional in taijutsu, as well as bukijutsu and even ninjutsu tactics, you just need help with your chakra for new techniques. Learning your elemental affinity now would probably take too long considering how many days away the mission is, so we'll stick to developing yin and yang again, but this time in your hands.
Naruto: Hey! Isn't it possible for me to have one of those bloodline thingamajigs like Haku had? You know, like ice or something?

Kakashi:...Hard to say really. But it seems most of the people and clans from our village lack any kekkei genki, and it was for this reason they developed their own jutsus over the decades. About the only ones from our village to ever unlock such legendary techniques were the first Hokage Hashirama, who created the five villages, and of course, the Uchiha clan and their mysterious sharingan.

Naruto: Oh yeah...Ka..Kakashi sensei...I've wanted to ask you for a while, how did you get your...
Sasuke: His personal history is none of your business, Naruto! Didn't he make that perfectly clear to us when we first met!?
Naruto:....Yeah..you're right...sorry..
Kakashi:...Hm hm..and here I thought you'd be the more curious one Sasuke..
Sasuke:...
Kakashi: Well, it's just as he said, I'd rather not discuss such events from my childhood as they aren't exactly..nostalgic..
Sakura:...

Kakashi: But maybe one of these days, when I think you've all earned it, I'll let you in on some of it, though don't be upset if you feel disappointed afterwards. Smiles
