Well when I'm reading a book ( I read a lot ), I can't just picture the scenes in head. It's just like my imagination doesn't work. I see some sort of flash pcture for a second but even to achieve that I have to concentrate. When I close my eyes to try and imagine/picture things in my head all see is darkness or the flash pic phenomenon I already mentionned. I used to be able to completely immerge myself in a story but it's been years since I lost that ability. Anyone else like me ?

It depends on the book. If the story interests me, and it is written by a good author, then I can read it. A good author knows how to write in a way that that gives a good description of the scene, without dragging on too long and making the reader lose interest. Being interested in the story is very important though, if you don't find the story fun to read, it will be a lot more difficult to follow it. Try reading a different style of books and see if that helps. Fantasy and Sci fi books are what have always captivated me the most. I can read Star Wars books all day long, but I tried reading a Charles Dickens book and lost interest 5 minutes into it.

I don't mind. I just turned 20 last July. Suggestions are welcome. I do find pleasure in reading, I just don't picture the scenes in my head. I understand them, if that makes any sense

No,no, what chickeneater means is the kind of books you won't willingly stop reading unless you must, because you're hungry or something, and even then you'll be trying to either read it or make haste to get back to it. Those are the kind of books that he thinks might help:hint:
I believe he is right in that it must be a very interesting and captivating book, I mean, I was stuck reading the HP books for two days straight if I had to, just to find out what happened next and the imagination of the scenes came by itself.
One more thing, when you read, do you read in quietness or in public places such as the library or in cafés etc.?
I think it always better to read where distraction is at a minimum, since I for one would have a hard time focusing any eyes.

maybe mcchickeneater is on to something. maybe the books you've been reading are just dull? you been through something traumatic as of late? an injury maybe? i dunno how hard you party but maybe some of the softer core drugs would help you relax and open your mind a bit

1- No trauma or head injury
2- I only read sci fi and fantasy books. Mystery novels sometimes, Agatha Christie, Conan Doyle etc... My primary language is french but I read a lot in english, french naruto translation are too far behind..
3- Softer drugs. I did consider those because of the vivid experiences that comes with them but I never tried.
Anyway it seems my ''condition'' is quite rare. Some people can close their eyes and picture a full landscape in their head and act just like they were there.
