Hey guys,

I just read an article on how to do some linearts and tried it out on
SoulEater and Naruto. I know it's still kinda hard, so I will try to make the lines more round and smooth next time.
So just tell me how you like it, and what I could improve. :D

So thats the original one

and here is my lineart

And thats the other one

Did you trace these? Because it resembles the originals too much,.. Even the size is the same.
I can't really tell from this how good your lineart skills are. .

Do you have any original work?

If you wanna improve your line art skills, I suggest you just keep practicing untill you get it.
Tracing or copying an image won't help you, it will make you unable to develop your own style.
Use images as an exsample, not as a model.

Believe me, I know..

EDIT: I'm not hating on your skills, I think you have a lot of potential, I'm just giving you advice almost no other artist is gonna give you at this early point of your artskills.

@Huag: Ehm....did I get there something wrong ? I though for a lineart, like those on "devianart" you
convert the originial lines into new ones. So you don't draw it on a seperate paper but just copy the lines.
I mean most of the linearts I have seen where like this.
I did it as explained here:

@others: Thank you for the nice comments :D

@ Simple Math: Why did I push the spoiler button ? :D

No, you haven't done anything wrong, I only meant to say you may want to appraoch a simpler method to develop your lineart skills.
Sorry, if I come accross as a bit harsh..I just wanna give starting artists some good advice.

I look at the tutorial you linked, and in my oppinion it's a bad way to improve your skills.
They actually expect you to start your first lineart digital, which is a bad point to start.

I've been drawing for 20 years, and even I couldn't start with digital lineart as if it were easy.

I strongly suggest you practice line art in the traditional way, so, pen and paper.
When you improve your lineart skills by drawing by hand, you'll automaticly improve the digital drawingskills.

This is simpley because the hand-eye coordination is easier to focus on when you're drawing, and helps you get a steady hand.

And if your artwork is similair as in the pictures (given that they weren't traced)
Then I really think you can improve you lineart significantly.

@Huag: Thank you for your advice :D

I know that it is better to draw it yourself and I usually do this. So to look at the original artwork and try to do it by myself.
What I did here was to prepare the basis for coloring a manga-scene. I recently postet a new manga-coloring and got the advice to make a lineart first and not just paint the original picture.

So thank you again for your advice :D

You're welcome ^_^
Just keep practicing, it's totally worth the blood, sweat and (occasional deadline-related) tears.
