My Everything
There was light in the world for me, once upon a time,
When I didn’t know they were all two-faced liars,
Where I knew not of the devil within me, ringing his evil chime,
Sentencing me to sorrow, I suppose one could say my straits were dire.
But on a fateful day, seeming ordinary at first glance,
I saw you pass me by, though I was blind to your beauty,
Over the months my heart thawed, and I was caught in a love-smitten trance,
Where I couldn’t stand to be without you, oh the cruelty.
Though on one afternoon, in the warm summer heat,
I dared to tell you about my feelings, risking my happiness once again,
So you cannot begin to imagine how I felt,
When you told me you requited such things, my joy I could not retain.
I took your hand in mine, and I whispered in your ear,
The words I never thought I’d utter in my lifetime,
The ones I didn’t want anyone but you to hear,
Since you are my world, my everything, my lifeline.
You kept the devil inside me caged away,
And gave me all the love you could muster in your heart,
Now I no longer see the world in just shades of grey,
I suppose you could call us part of a romantic art.
