Hey guys,
New to the base (long time lurker - finally took the plunge).
I have a simple theory I'd like to run by you. I'm not aware of anyone else making this argument, and if it is redundant - I apologize. Here goes -
So the end of this latest arc is rapidly approaching, and with Sasuke claiming that he wants to be Hokage and teaming up with the Leaf again, I have been wondering what the motivation will be for Sasuke to end up fighting with Naruto for a real fight to the death.
Several people have argued that the will fight over the seat of Hokage. While that will certainly be a component of the feud, I think it goes to something much deeper and more fundamental - Sasuke and Naruto's views on how to bring peace to the shinobi world.
To that end, I feel that the real fight to the death will be over the existence of the tailed beasts. Naruto will defend the existence of the tailed beasts and try to use them to protect and enhance the shinobi world. Conversely, Sasuke will view them as a source of death and destruction, and as the sole source of war, and ruthlessly try to exterminate the tailed beasts in order to ensure peace.
Several panels in this war arc support this theory - I'm new so I don't know how to compile them into a post. (My apologies). But the gist of it is that Sasuke is trying to protect Itachi's legacy, and he is disgusted with the current system of governance between the nations. This system revolves around a balance of power and equal distribution of the tailed beasts. Sasuke's method for peace is simple - eliminate the tailed beasts. Sasuke believes that this will end the constant struggle amongst nations to try to steal each other's tailed beasts and eliminates their constant threat of destruction.
Naruto, having recently befriended all of the beasts and caring for them deeply, will fight for their survival. He will argue that, because we now know that humans and tailed beasts can understand each other and work together, they should be used to enhance the shinobi world.
Ultimately, it is this rift that will drive them into a battle to the death. Sasuke will not back down. He will ruthlessly try to destroy the tailed beasts - and this will force Naruto's hand. He will be forced to fight for their survival.
I realize there might not be enough time left in the series to fully lay the foundation for this battle - nevertheless, I feel this would be the best storyline to really set the stage for a compelling Sasuke vs. Naruto deathmatch.
Thanks for reading, and having me on the base!
