I wouldn't say that Orihime and Sakura are "useless" but they aren't great characters and in the long run they are fodder.
With Orihime it's just her personality to cry over stuff, her healing status is good but she's never been THAT strong-willed a person so that's just kinda how it is.
And Sakura's weak but she's more competent than most of the other females in Naruto. Except for the VERY obvious ones like Tsunade, Mei, and Konan because they're all higher-level ninja to begin with. In her age group though the only one superior is Temari because she's, well, Temari. Taking her medical ninjutsu away definitely makes her a lot less useful but that's the same as saying: Take away Tenten's weapons and she's useless. Take away Temari's fan and she's useless. Take away Hinata's Byakugan and she's useless. It's just a part of her repertoire and that's how it is.
And compared to those two, Asuna is FAR from useless. Asuna at least knows how to fight alongside the protagonist better than probably any Naruto female. Admittedly Asuna was pretty useless during ALO, but that was mostly because the plot made her do really stupid things so it was less her fault and more the anime's fault. I mean honestly: when she's trying to get into the computer system, she goes in thinking the coast is clear, and doesn't check AGAIN to make sure those slugs weren't, well, right behind her? Asuna is no Lelouch but I can't fathom why she would do something so blatantly stupid.
Anywho, it's hard for me to decide on a single truly useless character. It seems like the side casts for Naruto and Bleach have BECOME useless though due to rarely being used as more than cannon fodder even if they ARE competent. But again, less their faults, more the creators' faults.
