To strip people of their 'truth' and trap them in an 'eternal' illusion is act an of arrogance and wickedness, in my opinion. Madara feels that it is his place to determine the fate of mankind is enough to prove he's arrogant.

We incarnate on earth to experience pain, overcome it, and turn it into something positive, i believe.

Difference between truth and lies, is that lies don't last forever, while absolute 'truth' is what's really eternal. I think the conclusion of the manga will represent that notion.
