One Piece is the most commercially successful manga.
With over 250 million volumes sold this series actually needs to be compared to garfield and Charlie Brown now. That's how wicked popular it is. It's sad it hasn't picked up traction in North America yet, but whatever. Last year alone, One Piece sold 30 million volumes with Naruto coming in second with roughly 6 million.
One Piece is literally in a league all its own atm. But most of its popularity is due to the timing of when it came out. Dragon Ball had concluded some time before, and WSJ needed a new flagship series. Boom! One Piece explotion.

For what ever reason ONE PIECE sales are insane, if we were to go by sales nothing else shounen wise matches up to it. There isnt a big 3,4,5.

So true, the way he develops each and every pony is amazing. Also the plot is starting to form so I'm excited to see how it goes. Such a truly gifted author in my opinion.
