Well according to the manga, each generation gets stronger. This might not be my personal beliefs, but that's manga fact. Therefore, I would see that old trickery would have less of an affect with the current shinobi.

Lol Onnoki soloed those clones + Susanoos also they had infinite chakra [since Madara was an Edo]. And Naruto's clones holding their own against Juubi is far better feat than Madara's WS clones making the 5 Kages to go all out U_U

The only viability that the Wood Clones ever had against Shadow Clones were there inherent durability. Naruto's clones however now don't get killed after a single hit, so the Wood Clone > Shadow clone argument is moot.
