Lightning is most powerful

Wind is most versatile

But lightning is very versatile too

While wind is not so powerful

Lightning > Wind in terms of overall usefulness & effectiveness, but only by a small margin.

wind, it's the most versatile.

a. can be used with weapons and has a lot of cutting power, plus it's not visible as shown when asuma sliced open kisame's face. so even also given that the sharpest weapon prevails, even a kunai or a shuriken can become a very formidable weapon.

b. it's good across short-long range

c. can be used on oneself to hover like danzou. or on the opponent to drag him down, push him away or pull him in

d. great for combination techniques with fire and water

e. techniques to create duststorms can work like smokebombs and give the user the surprise element.

Honestly I'd say that each element plays towards a play style.

Fire: Overwhelming offense

Lightning: Piercing offense (focuses the wide spread OP of fire to a single point)

Wind: Slashing Offense (used best when equipped to weapons....seems to focus only on cutting)

Earth: Pure Defense (pretty much Every Earth style has some defensive property to it)

Water: Balanced offense and defense

I personally find Waters attributes of having both violent attack and strong defense to be the
most versatile.

Attacking is probably fire, but based on personality lightning or wind may be better.

Defensively Earth style is where it's at.
