No they are picking wind because its the main characters element.

Them in there minds: "Oh win because its Naruto the main character its suppose to be better."
Them on threads: "Wind because its so new and cool and omg its nothing we never seen before."

I have a hard time choosing between fire and lighting. Fire can cause sever pain and can easily set the enemy on flames causing extra damage unless they act quick. while lighting can restrict the enemies movement my electrocuting them causing paralysis and giving you the advantage.

Why do people say wind is stronger? I've looked it up and I saw something like, "wind can cover more ground." "Lightning only striking once." But when there's a storm with lightning and wind (real life) nothing happens to either. Same in Naruto when sasuke and naruto clash.

well futon is very sharp and it cuts, doton crushes things with its weight, katon burns things depending on how much heat, suiton drowns anything, and raiton causes pain to the nerve system with its electricity. so the effective will most likely be futon due to its sharpness.

The obvious choice is lightning.It far more verstaile than wind, or any other jutsu for that matter.Out of all the nature elements it's has been shown to be the most versatile and the best looking.I mean, if you had Wind Armour what would that do beside make your farts travel further, thus stinking up more of your surroundings.Lightning is the only Nature element that can be used as a Sheid(Raikage's Lightning Armour), a piercing stab that can penetrate almost all defenses(Kakashi's Raikiri, Sasuke's Chidori, and the most powerful Third Raikage's Hell Stab),an amplifier for speed(The Raikage's lightning armour)a jutsu that can destroy mountains and is unavoidable without an ultimate defense(Sasuke's Kirin), and it's the best collaborative jutsu, as it can be added to water element attacks to strenghten the detructive force.Fire isn't as versatile, water is less destructive, earth has less collaborative qualities, and Wind isn't as versatile or destructive.I mean, beside Naruto's Rasenshuriken, name me one other wind jutsu that is powerful?None of the wind nature users jutsu could even scratch the Third Raikage and even the most powerful Wind element, Rasenshuriken didn't hurt the Third Raikage, as Naruto could assess.

The elemental scale goes Fire>Wind>Lightning>Earth>Water. With this we can understand which elements are strong/weak to other elements.

There is no strongest element.

My favorite element that I have seen used in the manga is wind or fire. I would love to see more earth jutsu though. I feel Earth would be my favorite if it were shown more.

Well I mean while one nature is effective, it could also be ineffective to another (e.g. wind - fire - water) so in my opinion there is no nature that is the most effective. But anyways I'll just go with lightning =D
