If Naruto would have hit sasuke they both would have been knocked out.
kakashi would have recovered both of them.
Because naruto was so desperate to prove sasuke wrong he missed his chance to actually save him.

without sasuke leaving he would have never gained his new abilities from orochimaru and in turn would have never found out the truth about itachi and the edokages.

Which in turn he still would have been out to either destroy the leaf or itachi instead of coming back and helping naruto in the current arc.

So imo it was best that sasuke left when he did because if he hadnt he would have not gotten strong enough to be of help against kaguya/madara/obito he had to learn the truths the hard way to become what he is now.

You guys are not getting the point, this is about naruto's rash decision to prove sasuke wrong, not about the occurrences of what happened after wards (which we cannot say for sure..).
