Sanji is bringing this team down to be honest. His offense is gear2 level without haki, which Doflamingo laughed at, let alone Akainu who not only is superior in level but is a logia with stronger armament, almost making him a non-factor. With Gear4's powerful offense and Zoro's mountain level attacks, they have means to hold their ground but i can see Akainu outlasting them in the end at least with their current feats because it may depend on how powerful Asura will be shown to be. Swap Sanji with someone like Law however and they definitely win this

I said at best which is under the assumption that zoro is close to luffys current level and is that were the case they can give akainu mid diff, if zoro is closer to sanji it'll become low diff

Not being able to win the fight and getting outlasted does in no way show that g4 luffy was "getting his ass handed to him" . If anything cracker very clearly implies that he would outlast g4 instead of overwhelming it as your post suggested
