Everyone knows the scan of momoshiki's rinnegan right? Not the old one but the new one? It's color is red, it's vaffeled me for awhile now but when I think about it, it isn't too far fetched.
So far there have been 3 rinnegan.
Hagoromo's and Madara's: the traditional dual rinnegan with the former being the harbringer. This variant of the rinnegan is purple and stems from the rinne sharnningan, basically a tomoeless rinne sharnningan but purple.
Sasuke's rinnegan: same as the standard rinnegan, however it retains sharnningan properties but on a higher degree hence jutsus such as "rinnegan:genjutsu", and six path abilities, obtained through the culmination of hagoromo's chakra mixing with indra's Chakra, mixing sharnningan and Rinnegan into one. Like the rinne sharnningan it possesses ripples and has Tomoe albeit 6, while the rinne sharnningan has 9 and there is only one of the eye. It is unknown if the rinne sharnningan has a depowered state just like the Tomoe rinnegan but we can assume nought. The closest to the rinne sharnningan's power in terms if ocular ability as one is getting.
Momoshiki's rinnegan: standard rinnegan variant however a possible evolution? As the eyes are red and this seems to be reminiscent of a tomoeless rinne sharnningan, literally , red and no Tomoe. The eye itself may be akin to what the rinnegan dual variant is to the rinnegan Tomoe variant. Momoshiki may be able to use kekkei Mora however like Sasuke, his rinnegan can get depowered (possibly), however momoshiki may lack sharnningan properties hence the lack of Tomo but still retains destructive feats as seen in the movie.
I have a theory that's really bizarre but I'm beginning to take myself seriously, what if kaguya had a third son? If we remember correctly, hamuta was yin with the moon seal and hagoromo was yang with yang seal. However there is a third variant called Wuji, Wuji is by definition known as "limitless" because it exists as the absence of yin-and-yang. Maybe momoshiki was like the Sakura of the group feeling behind, it isn't far fetched to say that he cultivated hamura's eyes, and cultivated hagoromo's eyes and put it in his palms. With kinshiki, a fellow otsitsuki who was his butler as momoshiki's eye brows are cut very short showing his sign of nobility. But from what we've seen of the otsutsuki, they seem practically human as seen with toneri however otsutsuki like Kaguya, momoshiki, and kinshiki have strange anatomy, in flashbacks with kaguya it seems she's always had this, how an otsutsuki gains this is unknown, however it seems that it could be the result of the atmosphere of their homeland.
Otsutsuki may be an alien race that adapts to their surroundings, which may explain why they are able to reproduce with humans as seen with hagoromo and hamura (and Kaguya?), and why they appear human on earth or in the artificial atmosphere on the moon. However; in their homeland it may be different as otsutsuki native from there and not earth have pale skin and strange anatomy such as horns or strange helmet that's part of the body in kinshiki's case, reminiscent of madara. Kinshiki may have obtained Madara's rinnegan along with his innate byakugan. Also momo in momo Shiki is reminiscent of "mono" which means one, and we know how much kishi loves name word play. Momoshiki may be trying to obtain all of his family's eyes, to be the ultimate dojutsu user, with hagoromo's rinnegan, hamura's byakugan, and soon Kaguya's rimne sharnningan. Just another one of Kaguya's back up plans just in case things go wrong. He also wanted to get sasuke to tell him what he found in Kaguya's castle which may allude to momoshiki being either Kaguya's son or possibly her brother as both kaguya and momoshiki seem to be royalty, it's also fun to note that both momoshiki and kinshiki both have the name "Shiki" in their name. Regardless, if momoshiki is Kaguya's brother, they may have a neji/hinata relationship except in this case they are both royalty so they may be from the same branch, and we know how much koshi loves sibling rivalry. But as Kaguya was the first one with Chakra at some point momoshiki did gain some of that power, so if he is her brother than he must've stole the rinnegan eyes, presumably from hagoromo, or if it is her son then he still most likely stole them or was born that way.
People also question why he has rinnegan on his hands, well unlike Tomoe rinnegan, if you combine byakugan and Rinnegan, to be honest you wouldn't even know the user had a byakugan except for strains in the eyes, byakugan is basically white (or a light lavender such as in hinata's case). So it had to be distinct, eyes in the socket, the head, and the forehead. I feel like there was a certain god in Shinto mythology who had the same thing but I forget whom, but this is just my thoughts, what do you guys think? Sorry if it was too long I appreciate those who read though
