Hey NB members,

This morning my mom offered for me to go to church with her, now, my mom KNOWS i don't believe in religion, so I gave her a long stare, and politely said "No, you know I don't do religion".

She gave me a serious look and was like "You know what, I'm going to pray for you"...please, that fear won't work on me anymore.

I went down stairs and she started telling me how "I'm going to hell" blah blah blah...(A lot of arguing about the plausibility of the bible) And threatened to kick me out for not believing in her religion.

In the end, the fear she tried to instill within me...was ineffective. I've already experienced religion, and broke free from the invisible shackles that oppressed me!

I love my mom, and yes, I do believe in God, but not the god religious people worship. I have beliefs, but not something that could be considered a religion.

I believe that we and everything that exists are ALL god, we have control over our own destinies, and the only person who could punish us for our wrong doing are ourselves...and karma.

We're here to EXIST, not live in a box fearing the day that "Jesus" will come and take some of us away, and leave the rest to suffer...

What's your view on religious parents, do you feel their upbringing is extremely rigid and oppressive, or it's good to have religious parents, and you love religion.

Seems like your mom has her own insecurities and she's taking her frustration out on you. I live with a Christian family. My parents know that I don't follow their beliefs but they don't say anything to me. I have to put on a facade for my grandparents though. Perhaps it would just be best to go along with her ideas for the time being even if you don't have the same beliefs.

In my opinion, I don't think religious parents should try to force their kids to be a part of a religion. I don't want to be religious, but my mom tries to make me religious too. I know where you're at kind of, but I don't think you should worry about it. I doubt anyone will choose religion over their own flesh and blood.

I don't feel like advocating my thoughts on religion and belief on here, but I feel that everyone should be able to think and believe what they want without being pressured or lectured.. BELIEVE IT!! :D

nowadays its really hard finding such tremendous religious people in my country.
especially the kind that tries to oppress their faith into your mind, by doing things like you
stated above.
In a way I don't believe in any god, nor upper being that controls the lives of everybody on earth.
I am a man of logic and rationality. In a way of: I will believe it, when I see it.

If I must choose to believe in something, It would be the faith of reincarnation.
Seems the most logic to mee

You are just like me bro! :D thumbs up in believing what's really true!

Although, we only go to church around Easter time.. I have no problem with it because i live under their roof. We are created to make something of ourselfs, not for some almighty power from above to do it for us. Those who have their fate controlled either sold their souls or are bound to do something extremely great for mankind(Jesus Christ).

Don't get offended but you're mother sucks... I don't understand religious people and theyr methods, I personally got kicked out once for a 5 days ''long time ago though'' for emptying dad's mini bar while they we're away... not that I did it on purpose. Party went out of control

I'm just like you. Although I'm not into religion, I believe there is a higher being watching over us. If you're over 18, you better make sure your mother doesn't carry out her threat of kicking you out. Living in the streets or your friends house is definitely gonna suck.

Here's the thing, I don't bash their religion, until they come to me with that BS!

I don't go around saying"I don't believe in religion" because I don't have the energy to explain how BASELESS the bible is, when it comes to concrete evidence!

I'm around ignorance 24/7, so I have to be careful on what I say around strangers, and sometimes even family. They're extremely indoctrinated, to the point where any statement that denies the plausibility of the bible, will cause them harass you!

Well I think to a degree it could be a little counter productive if they are overbearing with religion....but at the same time, I understand them....I respect their love for their religion, and understand their desire to pass it on to their children.

I think if a parent uses positive or constructive ways to pass it on that is great, but threats of eternal suffering is not the way to do it.

I'm personally a Catholic, and while I believe in the fundamental values of the religion, I don't exactly think I HAVE to attend church every day....I also don't have a problem with some of the Church's values (EX: I don't care about same *** marriage).

I think god (or whatever higher power exists) will judge us for who we are towards other people...being kind, loving, and understanding towards others and one's self is more important than following the strict practices of the organized church. At the same time....I don't entirely get away and ignore the organized church as it is just one way to say thanks for things you have ^.^!

Hope that made at least some manner of sense...kinda went all over the place XD...I'm using my phone so I am not really organizing it well

You should as her If she believes she'll make it to "Heaven" by trying to force believes created and sustained out of fear upon you, and also whether or not god admits cowards who's faith is impure and blatantly distasteful into what is supposed to be "Paradise or the Holy Land"

I often ask myself the question of christians know that the bible had to be rewritten cause there were so
many inhuman acts and cruelties in there that it was not suitable for the big crowd.
Allot of christians don't know that, and allot of them deny it too.
For it brings a rather cruel face to their oh so merciful 'god'

Hmm okay I am not gonna mock your beliefs or your mother's beliefs, but I will give an advice instead.

Try to compromise with her. I generally hate compromising but...but...parents deserve it (at least most of them). Avoid fighting and try to discuss with her on this subject.
Don't be aphoristic like "you believe, I don't, I don't care".
