Due to the latest chapter ive been hearing people wondering how hashirama defeated madara and i have a couple of reasons, although i wouldnt go into that. However i will go into the purpose of this thread.
Susano as we know is a manisfestation of the user's chakra which acts as its protector;
Now mokuton as we all know can surpress tailed beasts chakra;
Its most likely that its due to this that he hashirama had a number under his control;
But you see, his ability to suppress chakra isnt just restricted to tailed beasts. Yamato has demonstrated the ability to suppress human chakra, when he did so to kisame;
As yamato stated "i thought i had his chakras in check with that mokuton but he is still too strong". This ability couldve helped hashirama greatly to possibly restrict madara from using susano, if he couldve captured him and suppressed his chakra enough to either use a lesser form of susano or not be able to use susano's perfect form for long
