A specific subject would be interesting and make it difficult and thus more fun. Although Universal subject would allow more options and creativity.

I still stand by the weekly theme thing.

I mean, free reign is great, but think about it. One contestant pulls off some really great Robert Frost-level poetic justice, and a second contestant enters with a poem about the sandwich he ate half an hour ago. In poetry, individual styles are important and make each poet distinct, but there is always a basis for structure. If people win with one line poems, can we really say their poem is better than the soliloquies that others may make?

By providing a theme for each contestant to work with, they can add their style to the overall theme. For example, one week, we have "haikus", where the funniest/coolest/smartest ones win. The next week could be something like "life". Alternate between genres and themes.

Basically, like every contest, there should be some guidelines.

I see what you are saying now and I completely agree! You have a very good plausible outline for the structure of an online Poetry Contest.

This has already been asked a few times before.

I recall some of the staff saying that we don't have a need for it at the moment.

But we do! They are here to make this Forum as enjoyable for use Members as Possible! Not enjoyable for the MODs!

I just really hope that they could think about our wishes too.

I have contacted like 10 MODs, GMODs and ADMINs about this.... I am waiting for a response...

The mods already discussed about this in past threads. I don't think there will be a poetry contest

Why Not? Theirs Art Of the Month(Kinda Impossible to win), FanFic of the Month and so on!

I enjoy them a lot especially FanFic Of The Month.

I just don't see why their is a Moderated Poetry Base but no Poetry Contest. And that in the Writers Base they have a Contest only for FanFics.

Whats so bad about a Poetry Contest?

That's such a lame reason /: "A need for it"? Which of these contests developed because of a need? Can a mod list each contest and the "need" each one carries?
We had a Rap Thread and it got deleted :T_T: I don't get why? Yet, millions of Sasuke/ Itachi threads. Which don't bother me that much, but..
We've made "rap events" quite infamous to the mods. They are reluctant to let them slide nowadays.

Then the former wins and the latter loses. It's no different than someone posting a side-splitting FUB, and someone else posting a complete dud.
