This chapter is basically a “midquel” to the last one, meaning their events take place at about the same time. Just trying to avoid confusion there. This is where everything starts to fall into place, and it’s also pretty short, so no need to worry about that*_* lol Anyways, enjoy:)

Previous Chapter:

- Successor to the Beast -

“That little shit! I swear, if he wasn’t the boss’s kid, I would’ve shot his punkass a long time ago.” Roku exclaimed, mere seconds after Aito departed from the house.

“I would seal those urges away if I were you, Denashi. …With the way things are, we might just be taking orders from him soon enough.” Hei inferred in between licks of his lollipop. Without hesitation, Roku spun around to face him, a look of utter disbelief plastered on his face.

“And how the **** do you figure that, Kaozu!?” he shouted, seemingly horrified by the very idea. Hei didn’t give an immediate response, instead twirling the stick of his lollipop with his thumb and index finger as he gazed blankly at its transparent, ruby-red center.

“If I might suggest, let’s return to the office and discuss this matter…in private.”

Looking around the room as Roku’s eyes followed, Hei silently pointed out that they were still being watched by a large group of curious henchmen, most of them still perplexed by the chief hitman’s prior stand-off with their late boss’s son. Taking Hei’s hint, Roku shot them all a glare – hidden by his ever-present glasses – as the two walked past them and back to Yatsumi’s office, Sesshoku following close behind. When they were finally alone inside the large room, the latter closed the door behind him before turning to the man who suggested they retreat there.

“Alright, we’re alone. Now explain yourself, Hei. You don’t honestly believe that Aito will become the new don of the Ryokudan family, do ya?” Sesshoku asked, highly opposed to the idea himself, though not so much as Roku.

“Of course, Sesshoku. Yatsumi received this empire, small as it was at the time, from his father and he said on numerous occasions that he also wished to pass it down to one of his own sons. Seishin’s handicap leaves him unqualified for the job and with Mao’s age, Aito is the only one capable of inheriting the Ryokudan family.” Hei explained, no doubt trying merely to showcase his undying loyalty to his late boss.

“Oh, give me a ****in’ break! That little bastard’s liable to tear this place down brick by brick and send every last one of us either to jail or to Hell if he ever got ahold of our assets!” Roku responded, clearly doing everything in his power to ensure Hei’s words were in vain.

“Roku’s got a point, Hei. Aito’s more of a threat than an ally. He hated his old man, we all know that. And I’m fairly sure that he hates most of us, too.” Sesshoku added, certain that Hei would give up the endeavor after just a little persuasion.

“What would you suggest then, Sesshoku? Give the family to someone whose not in it?” Hei asked as he walked over to Yatsumi’s desk, proceeding to stand there motionless as he scanned the area where their leader’s body was found that same morning.

“No shit! For God’s sake, Hei, you’re the most loyal bastard outta the bunch, we know that, but Yatsumi’s dead! You can stop following his wishes for once!” Sesshoku replied, quickly becoming annoyed by his persistence on the subject. In the meantime, Roku devised his own proposal to appease Hei’s aspirations.

“You’re so goddamn set on it, we can just wait until Mao’s eighteen and run this shindig ourselves. Yeah, we gotta wait a few years, but the empire still ends up in the hands of one of Yatsumi’s sons. Sound good?”

No sooner after he made the suggestion did the doors of the office fly open to reveal Yatsumi’s youngest son, as neatly groomed as he ever was.

“Why wait until I’m eighteen?”

There was a smoothness to Mao’s voice not heard before – one that could’ve made marble floors envious – and his smile held a mixture of confidence and devilish charm unheard of for a boy his age. His arrival being arguably the last thing that the trio was expecting to occur, their initial reactions were utter surprise, replaced shortly afterwards by amusement – which none of them made any attempts to hide.

“Alright, alright. We’re having business talk here, fella, so why don’tcha go back to your room and play with your toys or whatever?” Sesshoku said, seeing Mao’s interruption as a complete waste of his time. His associates, on the other hand, were not so quick to brush him off.

“Wait, hold the phone for a minute there, Sesshoku. …This just got a whole lot more interesting.” Roku said with an amused smile as he walked over to Mao, inciting a strong objection from the older of his two acquaintances.

“You gotta be shittin’ me. Hei, is he serious right now? You’re a logical man, so say something.” Sesshoku turned to the most composed member of their group for assistance. He found none, though – only an adventurous look in his colleague’s eyes as he continued to suck on his lollipop.

“Actually, …I’m rather intrigued, as well. I wouldn’t mind hearing what Mao has to say.”

Sesshoku proceeded to pace back and forth across the room, cursing under the breath as Roku dropped to one knee in front of Mao, removing his glasses to allow them better views of one another.

“You know what we do, right, Mao?” he asked, still smiling in amusement.

“Yes.” Mao answered, having adopted a more professional expression.

“Are you sure?” Roku double-checked, one eyebrow raised.

“Money, drugs, ***, murder, and making sure none of it can be traced back to you. …Am I right or am I right?” Mao responded to his doubts, rousing a hearty chuckle from the notorious hitman.

“And you really think you have what it takes to make sure that not a single area of our business affairs start to go under? At your age?”

Much as he was enjoying this makeshift interview, Roku expected that the realization of what responsibilities came with running the yakuza would ultimately place a huge dent in Mao’s resolve. He was wrong.

“I have all the confidence and all the ability in the world, Roku. But, I’m afraid this ride still needs an ‘okay’ from an adult before I can get on it. …Perhaps, you’d be that adult?”

Taken aback by the level of assurance Mao was showing – and finding amusement in the amount of smoothness of his responses – Roku returned to his feet and turned around to face Hei and Sesshoku, an enormous grin now stretched across his face.

“I like his style, Kaozu.” he said, prompting a soft chuckle from the younger of his two colleagues.

“As do I. …Are you still unconvinced, Sesshoku?” Hei inquired of the third member of their elite group, who was much less enthusiastic about the entire prospect of it.

“NO ****ING SHIT!! That’s a twelve year-old boy you’re goin’ back and forth with, Roku! How the **** do you expect me to react!?”

The confident smile that had decorated Mao’s face throughout this entire exchange quickly vanished in reaction to Sesshoku’s unwillingness to consent. Hei and Roku saw this, as well, hinting once again to how serious the boy was about succeeding his father.

“I’ll tell you what, then, Kyōgi. If I’m still unable to convince you within the next month, then the empire is yours. Until then, though, I watch over everything. The drug shipments, the hits, the under-the-counter deals, …the brothels, all of it for one month, and if any of it begins to collapse while under my watch, then I give the three of you every right to pull me out of that chair…by force, if you have to.”

Already willing to give him a chance, Hei and Roku had no trouble agreeing to these terms, prompting them to turn to Kyōgi – the one person who did.

“Sound good?” Roku asked him, seeing no reason for him to possibly turn down such a generous offer. Indeed, Kyōgi’s doubts about the entire situation had changed after hearing Mao’s proposal, though only from complete denial to major concern. He reached into his suit for a half-empty pack of cigarettes – his aggravation starting to peak – only for him to be stopped from lighting one by Mao.

“Not in here, please, Kyōgi.”

In spite of the harmlessness of Mao’s request, Kyōgi saw it as his way of saying that he was already fit to order him around, and quickly stormed out of the room to avoid cursing the child out.

“Do whatever the **** you want. I don’t give a shit anymore. …Stupid asses, given the chair to some goddamn kid…”

He continued this muttering long after the doors had shut behind him. Once they found themselves alone again, the displeased expressions the three remaining individuals were wearing simultaneously transformed into evil grins before they turned towards the large desk located at the opposite end of the room. Walking over to it and stepping behind it, Hei subsequently pulled the large, leather-bound chair back and offered it to Mao – an indication of his newfound loyalty.

“Well then, would you care to have a seat, …Boss?”

Accepting his gracious offer with a smile, Mao walked behind the desk and leapt up onto the large seat – it was rather big for a boy of his size. Seeing that he was just barely able to rest his arms on top of the desk, Hei reached beneath the chair with his foot and pushed down on a small, black lever, causing it to rocket up another eight inches. Shooting his new subordinate a thankful glance, Mao placed his elbows atop the desk and intertwined his fingers before pressing his lips against them. He looked around the room for a moment – allowing this new feeling of power to seep in – as Hei and Roku watched him in amusement.

“So? …How’s it feel?” the latter asked as he leaned against the wall, arms crossed and his sunglasses once again resting atop his crooked nose. The corners of Mao’s lips curved up into a devilish smile as he gave him his answer.

“Oh yes, …I could definitely get used to this.”

Bwahahaha! Mao's evil agenda. Somehow I expected more of a resistance. Maybe even some blackmail or threatening on Mao's part to make them agree and thus showing his high competence in being sinister and psychotic. Maybe even making some allusions to knowing things about the boss' death to raise some eyebrows...seemed to easy. That's my only crit lol. But otherwise, spot on. This was rather nice. Keep it up bro!

I was surprised by the topic Hei brought up. And it appears as though Yatsumi never prepared a will thus his belongings are in the air. Nevertheless, what I had assumed last chapter is blooming now as only Hei was loyal to the boss and the others began grasping for a solution that best fitted themselves. Mao’s sudden appearance was unexpected and the first words he spoke was shocking! lol This was an insane turn of events-for a kid to run a yakuza was just unheard of and the worst thing was that Mao revealed his true evil colors. Even more crazy than that was how two out of three subordinate gave their consent. This story has taken an interesting yet bizarre twist and I like it-just wait until Aito discovers this! An excellent read and well written chapter! ;)

Much appreciation, man*_* Yeah, I said early on that the premise of this story is kinda out there, but I just loved it too much:) lol Yeah, loyalties and reasonings are still up in the air at this point. I've got 'em all worked out, but unfortunately, I'm only going halfway through the story before I stop posting it on hereU_U

Thanks a lot for reading, though, man*_*

Good chapter. I was expecting this obviously because of the title, but I did not expect him to do it without mentioning it to Aito first. I also thought Raku and the others would put up more of a fight and that Mao would have to hint that he is responsible for his father's death for them to agree to it out of fear that murder was so easy for a 12 year old. I guess the old man thought he would live forever since he didn't make any provisions if he should die because he didn't seem to have much use for his children.

Well written and it progressed the story nicely.

Yeah, I rewrote this particular transition heavily a while back cause it really does suspend disbelief (the final book I intend to be all in first-person, so this conversation technically never happens). lol

There is much more happening than just what you see, though. They didn't just GIVE him that desk, that's for sure. lol

Thanks for more feedback*_*
