Some people on Earth believe that humans evolved from other things.

Some people believe a greater being put humans here.

Several theories. Chances are only one of them is true. The same applies here, if you ask me. Some ninja say that the Sharingan came from the Byakugan, some say it came from other sources. Nothing new here.

<sigh> No the sharingan wasn't "given" to Madara's ancestors, it was "passed on" to the son of the Rikudo Sennin w, in the form of the Sharingan, and that bloodline formed the Uchiha.
The other son possessed the Rikudo's "body" and vitality, and that bloodline formed the Senju.

About the Byakugan, I think it was once again a mutation in the Uchiha bloodline, as the Older Son's family began to grow, the Byakugan was born, but I have little knowledge of the time-lapse between the SO6P and the Hyuga emerging, since there is little.

Neither of these theories are absolutely true.

The sharingan was BELIEVED to be descendant to byakugan. It was just a theory and there was no concrete evidence, likewise for the sage of the six paths; there is no absolute evidence that he did exist and gave his son the sharingan.

Everything is just a mere legend, past down to be believed by future generations.
