A couple of weeks ago I brought up the idea that I felt Jiraiya was rather negligent in the fact that he didn't take Sasuke under his wing like he did Naruto, Nagato and so many other shinobi. He instead decided to let Kakashi handle Sasuke and we all know how that ended up.
My question isn't directed solely at Jiraiya, but as the Konoha leadership as a whole. Why wasn't Sasuke managed better, as not only a child but an asset to the village?
Sasuke, at a very early age, suffered trauma that would send most children over the edge. He handled it better than most, and became self-obsessed with revenge.
I find it funny, that he didn't have his memory altered, wasn't put under the guidance of any ninja, or family, and was essentially just left to his own devices.
Now, you could argue that in the ninja culture, children as young as 5 (Itachi) can become full-fledged ninjas and can be sent into battle. And while that may be true, every ninja, especially the last of his clan under Konoha's control in Sasuke, should be valued higher than most ninja in the village, as he could grow up to become very powerful.
So, for years Sasuke was unsupervised until Kakashi. And yet, Kakashi didn't take the steps necessary in many ways to ensure Sasuke would walk the right path. He certainly could have told him "I'll train you to kill your brother", no, instead he just told him that revenge wasn't the answer, and he expected a 13 year old to make the right decision. His faith was ill placed to say the least.
Of course there is also Sarturobi and his gross oversight of everything that was happening in his village, from Orochimaru's experiments, to Danzou's motives, to Naruto's well-being, and finally to Sasuke's mental and emotional health.
Jiraiya, like I said, could have taken Sasuke under his wing and trained him and Naruto together. With competition breeding success, Naruto and Sasuke could have pushed each other to be even greater than they were in the beginning of Part 2. Jiraiya also knew that Orochimaru stuck his teeth into Sasuke (literally) and yet chose to take no precautions, or at the very least make any suggestions to Kakashi.
And while many will say "But Sasuke is a bastard, he should have never did what he did", I answer with this: If you are a 13 year old child soldier who's witnessed the genocide of your family by your brother, was then mentally broken by his ultimate genjutsu on two occasions, and then had a pedophile psychopath place a curse on you that altered you, how would you act in this situation?
So, what do you think should have or shouldn't have been done to ensure that Sasuke didn't leave Konoha and didn't walk down the path he did?
