Mu's ability to hide his presence is not just simple invisibility, but he literally extinguishes his chakra to the point where it cannot be either seen or sensed
The only way Mu can be sensed is through means of physical detection - Gaara's sand sensing, Kiba's smell sensing, and Kabuto's snakes (which can smell through their tongues) are some of the few ways which Mu can be detected.

- it is the same ability that Karin used to avoid detection by Cee

. Why do you think that he has to go visible to use jinton? It's because he cannot mold chakra in his invisible state since he extinguishes it with his invisibility. A common misconception is that Mu can be seen with dojutsu, since Obito's sharingan saw through Taiseki's camouflage technique. The sharingan can see chakra, but it cannot see something that has no chakra. Ao (who posessed the byakugan) was at the five kage summit and did not detect Karin downstairs - so dojutsu has already been shown incapable of seeing someone with their chakras extinguished. Actual invisibility coupled with extinguished chakra is completely different than a fodder-level camouflage technique used by a low-ranking Stone ninja. The only way Mu can be sensed is through means of physical detection - Gaara's sand sensing, Kiba's smell sensing, and Kabuto's snakes (which can smell through their tongues) are some of the few ways which Mu can be detected.
