Kishi just didn't want Minato to be the major force in bringing Madara down, that's why he lost his second arm too.

At the time the guy had nothing but time to mold the nature chakra, come on the guy had no arms... what else are you going to do. He was Jmans apprentice so its not out of the relm of possibility as some might claim its staight "ass pull". An asspull would be as if someone like Kabuto sudden had sage, while testing and plotting and perfecting and imperfect jutsu... oh wait...

Don't know, he's a true sage, but he can't last in it for very long. Although I think 5 seconds is exaggerated. He has used it in life, so either it's longer than this, or he can summon ma and pa.

I think he got some backblow because Minato would have become too OP if he was a Perfect Sage in addition to his current strength. Could you imagine if he knew Frog Kata like Naruto and combined those shockwave punches with FTG? And used the Sage sensing and reflexes to pad his already crazy stats even more?

Could be that, because Minato isn't a chakra powerhouse like Naruto/Jiraiya, he can't gather that much Natural Energy (although he's admittedly strong enough to withstand Natural Energy, so he's above average for sure). Perhaps the smaller amount of Natural Energy would explain why Minato can't maintain Sage Mode for long.

Naruto was able to gather Natural Energy more quickly in Bijuu Mode; perhaps having more chakra, and being able to gather more Natural Energy, also increases the speed at which one can enter Sage Mode.

Basically, I'm chalking up the inferior gathering-speed and duration of Minato's Sage Mode to his inferior quantities of chakra. Naruto has more base chakra than Minato/Jiraiya, and is at least as skilled as Minato in terms of balancing Natural Energy (and better than Jiraiya), so Naruto can enter Sage Mode nearly instantly and maintain it for long periods of time (at this point he's well past the 5 minute time limit, and can basically maintain it indefinitely). In Bijuu Mode, Naruto eclipses everyone except Hashirama; Hashirama is also a perfect Sage.

IMO i think he meant what he said in the manga that he has never really used sage mode for combat. him being able to attain perfect toad sage mode doesnt exactly mean he has used it for a combat situation and he may have only have been able to attain sage mode as a level of ability. (Am i making sense at all?)

Nope, quite the opposite. Minato has more chakra than jiraya.

You cannot become a sage unless you have enormous chakra.

And it's as if people forget that jiraya cannot even use sage mode on his own.
