Minato never "had" the Kyuubi per se, he just broke Obito's contract. Gai, 7th gate: the only advantage of Minato is Hiraishin, then he's just Taijutsu by using the Rasengan at close range, and that's when Gai would demolish him

7th Gate Gai < all forms of Minato (except maybe armless). 7 Gates Gai isn't faster than V2 Ay, nor is he more durable, and his stamina is inferior to Ay who can maintain his speed for extended periods of time, while Gai badly strains and exhausts his body using the gates. 7 Gates ain't touching Minato, in fact if Gai even tried to engage in taijutsu, he will get marked and decapitated. 8th Gate is useless as well, if Minato teleports away from the battlefield and comes back 5 minutes later, all minato has to do is finish the job since Gai will be rotting, and we all know minato knows about the eighth gate so he isn't gonna try fight him head on.

People overrate Gai way too much now, can't believe a suicide technique gets this much attention.
