the whole tracking and sensing idea is a bit confusing I suppose.
He is either a sensor or a tracker. Not sure the exact difference in them though.

You can tell he isn't a sensor, he was in battle mode with tobi, and couldn't tell that he was right behind him.. sensors like muu and karin, sage mode users would have reacted...
He does have a tracking ability like tobirama... a useful technique for any ninja to have... unless you're kakashi and can use your nose ...

Orochimaru himself said , they(sasuke and taka) could sense "his" chakra even without being sensors and it bothered sasuke a little.
KM Minato might be a sensor though.
Completely agreed with you & owarij, minato only has a simple sensing ability, he has never shown the ability to sense people without touching the ground & any normal sensor doesnt need to do that in order to sense.

Its one thing to feel Massive chakra and another to know that Naruto has moulded his chakra with Kurama and is actually fighting with him, only a skilled sensor would know that U_U

What? How do you know that sasuke didnt sense the same thing that minato sensed. Naruto gets his chakra boost from kurama & so the only way he can emit such a power is if he uses kurama's chakra. Sasuke realized that it was naruto & kurama because he knows that naruto uses kurama for power, minato also knew that because he put kurama inside of naruto.
This is an assumption, do you have the official translation? Because by that it sounds like the kunai has a jutsu that alerts him, are barrier jutsu users sensors too then? because they can get alerted via jutsu as well.
Nope, they all[Sasuke and Taka Fodders] felt Naruto's Massive Chakra, however Minato was able to deduce what happened.

One more thing, Lets see how the Naruto and Hokages appeared on the battlefield
1. Naruto - He's a sensor that's why he knew where to go, KillerBee followed him.
2. Tobirama and Co - Tobirama is a sensor, Hashirama and Hiruzen followed him.
3. Minato - Being a sensor and a speedster he was fastest to reach at the perfect spot.
4. Sasuke - Juugo is sensor, Sasuke arrived with him.
But there's really no need for this when it was confirmed way back in Chapter 244 [Kakashi Gaiden]

1- When he redirected Kyubi's bomb, he said "i'll gotta pick a safe place to let that huge blast detonate":
How did he know the place where he would redirect it was safe if he wasn't a sensor? Or are you going to tell me that Minato knew no one could be walking around the area at that particular moment? XD
2- As stated he uses the same sensing technique Tobirama(who is a sensor) uses and they are the only one who have shown this in the manga
3- Curiously only Tobirama and Minato were the one capable to sense chakra in that room. Hiruzen for example was questioning himself and was referring himself to what Tobirama stated, which means he felt nothing in that room:

Again you're assuming things, sasuke felt naruto's chakra, but sasuke knows that naruto has kurama. Minato can feel that same strong chakra & he knows just as much as sasuke.
Okay well then my point still stands, barriers jutsu users can sense people by alerts, minato's kunai could be doing the alerting instead of him, like an alarm clock. That scan you showed does not prove that minato can sense.

Sasuke was with Naruto for years, Minato for Minutes U_U Both Tobirama and Mianto were able to sense respective chakra's Tobirama sensed Madara's and Minato sensed Naruto+Kurama U_U
Tobi and Kakashi uses Kamui in form of barrier as well as teleportation but neither has any idea about what other is doing, meaning the barrier jutsu users don't sense U_U It's Minato who is a sensor senses when his FTG seal is moving and that's why the word "ALERT"

Minato was the one who put kurama in naruto, he knows just as well as sasuke that naruto has kurama's power U_U.
Tobirama sensed madara, he even gave the exact direction & looked that way immediately, minato only sensed naruto & kurama because that was the largest chakra reserve there, & it was only a general direction too because he didnt look any specific way. Minato was the only one who can recognize it for the same reason that sasuke can. They both know how kurama's chakra feels. Nobody else knows this except for maybe oro but im unsure.

Tobirama was not shocked, & im not going to get into it but he FTG'd to that kunai, believe what you want but saying that he didnt teleport to the kunai in front of naruto is hilarious
