I don't think that was dumb really, it's just how the plot began... Minato being a smart guy was introduced later, also in Kyuubi incident, emotions got into his plans that's why it all turned into a mess.

He was mizukage at the age of 17-18. That konoha attack was before anbu kakashi days

No what Minato did was dumb and only worked out because of bad storytelling on Kishi's part. You can't tell me with Minato knowing that the real threat to the village was the masked man that he suspected of being Madara that killing yourself when you are the only person you know that can counter his abilities is not dumb. He once again could have at least sent out some sort of message to let the village know who was truly behind the attack and be prepared but he did not.

He was 13 in Kakashi Gaiden, 31-32 in Shippuden.
He attacked Konoha 12 years before the series.
Thats 6 years before Shippuden. He was 19 when he attacked Konoha.

Minato was 24 when he died. He was on par with a Kage 5 years older than him.

Edit: He was probably 16-17 when he became Stealth-Mizukage.

1. Minato dealt with Kurama after Obito left.

2. The deal Obito made with Itachi already covered why the former didn't attack Konoha again over that time span.

3. You're assuming that if Minato were to attempt assasinating Obito with FTG, Obito was going to be stupid enough to try the same exact thing he did the first time around, or that Obito wouldn't have already learned the dimension hopping ability by then.

4. His gamble paid off. Whether you agree with it or not, the results speak for themselves.

5. Of course Kishimoto had to justify Minato dying on the night Naruto was born, because Naruto was supposed to be the main protagonist of the story, not Minato. That's why the story's name happens to be the same one as the name Minato gave his son.

i didn't read because the format is terrible, but i agree that minato and itachi did shit on the manga and get praised by the characters WTF.
Minato has redeeming qualities, and Itachi is badass, but they are flawed as ****
