Minato himself already stated he could'nt defeat Tobi in that fight.
He just stalled him long enough and broke the control over the kyuubi.
That was his goal anyway, protecting the village.

If he did'nt stop the kyuubi back then and chased after Tobi, it would probably just result in a destroyed Konoha, 2 dead Kages and no Naruto whatsoever.
