Did anyone think it's odd for Minato to address Oro as "Orchimaru-san" after all, Oro did go rogue before Minato died. So I think it's strange for Minato to still have respect for him.

And as for Oro. He addressed Tsunade as "Princess". Why would he say that when he tried to kill her:confused:

well with Minato i imagine it's a sign of respect regardless if he's evil

and for Orochimaru he's just addressing her by her proper title similar to how people would address Konohamaru

He is his elder, and it's a title of respect.

Renegade or not, Orochimaru was still once a hero of Konoha, let alone Minato's senior and therefore respectful. Also, Orochimaru was perhaps trying to identify her in the way that she's known around the world. Even so, he still has some form of respect for his comrades; the Sannin were together for years and years. He's not emotionally barren like Sasuke.
Sasuke's crazy friendly dude. Did you not see him pull the kunai as soon as Naruto appeared to save Sakura? He was all "Shit! I almost killed my teenage dream."

Well, from the time Minato was a kid Orochimaru was known as one of the legendary sannin and was one of the most reputed ninja in the village. He was very talented and famous because of it. He was Minato's elder and it's common for the sama/san suffix to be added at the end of the name of someone of stature.

Just as san is used for equals, senpai is for senior colleagues (Yamato would call Kakashi Kakashi-senpai at times, Tobi would call deidera senpai ect)

Naruto is all about respect for superiors! For Minato, Oro is a fellow student of his sensei and deserves respect. Just as Madara respects Hashi and Hanzo respects Mifune.

For one, Minato was Jiraiya's student. So.

*Minato standing there as kid, while Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru socialize.

*Minato probably sees Orochimaru do some things that are pretty incredible as a kid.

*As he's growing, so is Orochimaru's legend, and skill. Along with becoming the Three Sannin with Tsunade and his Master.

Just too name a few of the slew of reasons why Minato respects Orochimaru, even if he turned his back on the village as Minato rose too Hokage. He still knew him as a kid, and probably through the teenage years and looked up too him and Tsunade both likely with almost as much respect for them as he had for Jiraiya.

Actually it makes perfect sense, keep in mind, Oro was one of the legendary Sannin along with Jiraya and Tsunade. Jiraya was Minato's teacher, so it's fair to assume that prior to Oro going rouge, Minato had many interactions with him as well as Tsunade and was probably event trained by them in the same way Iruka, Asuma, Kakashi, Guy, etc have trained different members of team 10. I believe that's where the respect comes from, that and the fact that it's customary in Japanese culture to always show respect, even to one's enemies, just my two cents.

As others have stated, oro was teammates with his sensei jiraiya. minato had so much regard for his sensei that he named his son after a character from his first novel. Its no surprise that hed give some respect to oro for the memories of his master that seeing him brings.

Just because people disagree on outlooks and opinions and are on opposing sides, doesn't mean you can't still respect their prowess and stature.

Everybody seems to forget that Minato was inside Naruto watching everything, and I mean EVERYTHING: konhoja attack, Orochimaru vs Tsunade and Jiraya, Sasuke's kidnapping, Naruto vs Orochimaru on that bridge, and Naruto + Sasuke's first encounter. Minato saw it all, because his chakra was inside Naruto, and he clearly stated that he could see whatever happened, since he knew about Pain.
