Okay, here's part 7! Enjoy!
Part 7
Kushina took shelter in a cave while the war raged all around her.
She’d traveled to the hidden rain successfully. There were so many bodies piling up around here, not to mention the constant rain, that she knew no one would be able to track her As long as she remained in this country. And she had to remain hidden, for Minato’s sake.
There was no way she would allow him to become jinchuuriki. He didn’t deserve it.
But it was hard to live here. There was very little food, and it was too easy to get caught in the crossfire of war. With Konoha responsible for the war, her heart ached for the people. Especially the children. The other day, she saw a little girl crying in the middle of a destroyed village, her family and friends laying dead around her.
It brought back bad memories.
Another bomb went off up above, making rocks and rubble rain down on her. She grit her teeth and tried to guard her head with her arms.
She smiled pitifully. If she hadn’t run away, she could be with Minato, Mikoto, and Kizashi right now. She would spar with Mikoto, since that was always fun, and prank Kizashi, since he had a sense of humor and was easy to mess with. Then she and Minato could hold hands, and walk together in the sun. There was no sun here. Only dark clouds and a storm of blood.
No. If she had stayed, she would be dead. And Minato would be miserable.
“Help!”
She raised her arms and looked around. Who was that? Sounded like a child.
“Help me! Please!”
That was a child.
Kushina got to her feet and ran outside, staying close to the rocks to hide herself. Over her clothes she wore a black rain poncho, and her red hair was put back in a ponytail. Still, she didn’t want anyone from Konoha seeing her.
She peered out from behind the rocks. Yes, it was a girl. She had long black hair and was wearing strange clothes. A black cloak over a fish net shirt. Her weapons were scattered all around her, and she was losing a lot of blood from a busted knee.
And she was crying.
“Help me!” She cried. “Please! Yahiko-sensei! Nagato-sensei! Konan-sensei! I can’t move! I don’t want to die!”
Kushina blinked. Was she a ninja? With all that dark hair, and the crybaby attitude, she kind of reminded Kushina of Mikoto, back when they were children.
A bomb went off ten feet from her, sending her flying towards the rocks. Kushina gasped, and ran to catch her, barely making it in time before ducking behind the rocks again.
“Who are you?” The little girl asked.
“None of your business.” Kushina told her, and bit into her own thumb deeply before drawing a sealing circle on the stone beneath the girls knee.
A series of hand signs and some chakra conjuring later, the girl’s knee was all healed.
“Oh wow…” She stared in shock. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Kushina grinned, very proud of herself. “Well, of course. Just who do you think you’re talking to?”
“I don’t know, stupid.” She pouted, angry. “You haven’t told me yet. I’m not a mind reader.”
Kushina fought the urge to strike her across the head. “Ingrate…!”
“Mei!” Someone called. “Mei, where are you!”
Kushina looked over the rocks. Some more ninjas wearing clothes identical to the girls were running around, battling the konoha ninja and helping the injured rain ninja run away. Rain’s black ops?
She took another look at the whimpy kunoichi-in-training she’d rescued and decided that probably wasn’t the case.
Three ninja appeared around her,
startling her so she backed away from the girl. One had spiky orange hair, and a punk’s expression. The girl next to him had dark blue hair, and an origami flower pinning her extra bangs back. And the last one…
Her eyes widened. Red hair. And his features… He was an Uzumaki too.
Incredible. She hadn’t met another Uzumaki since lady Mito. But what was he doing here? Were there other survivors with him?
“Who are you?” The orange-head demanded.
“She’s wearing a konoha headband.” Noted the origami-girl.
“An enemy?” Asked the redhead.
The little girl ran and threw her arms out in front of Kushina.
“No, she saved me!” She told them. “I was injured, but she healed me. I ‘d be dead by now if not for her!”
Kushina blushed. She was rarely ever spoke of with such… respect.
“Are you an nukenin then?” Asked the orgami-girl. “Though your headband hasn’t been crossed out.”
Kushina touched her forehead protector with the tips of her fingers. She couldn’t bring herself to damage it. To her, this was… a way of returning to Konoha, if she ever could.
Her stomach growled so loudly the four strangers stared at her funny and she had to look away out of embarrassment.
Then the orange head laughed.
“I’ve never met someone so hungry.” He said. “Wanna join us for dinner?”
The origami-girl and redhead whipped their heads to look at him, astonished.
“Yahiko!” They yelled in unison.
“You cant be serious.” Said the orgami-girl. “She’s from konoha!”
“She could be a spy.” Redhead pointed out.
“Konan, Nagato, calm down would you?” He said, jabbing two fingers into the redhead’s forehead, surprising Kushina. “I’m not saying to take her to the hideout, just feed her. Besides, she saved our way-too-reckless insubordinate subordinate.”
Yahiko grinned at the little girl, who giggled while looking sheepish.
“Anyway, we owe her.” He concluded. “And she doesn’t look smart enough to be a spy.”
Kushina glared. “Hey!”
Yahiko pointed at her. “See? It’ll be fine.”
Nagato sighed and closed his eyes in dismay, slapping his palm to his forehead.
“You’re too relaxed, as usual.” Konan complained before looking at Mei. “Are you sure she wasn’t just trying to capture you? We can’t afford to be caught in enemy traps.”
“I’m sure. She used some weird jutsu, and I was healed in an instant!” Mei threw her arms in the air. “It was like magic!”
Kushina reached down and flicked the ground in certain places to create cracks, loosening the piece of stone with the girls “time” sealed into it and handed it to Konan.
“You might want to hold onto this.” She told her.
Confused, Konan took the rock in her hands.
“Let’s go, everyone!” Yahiko punched the air. “I’m starved!”
Elsewhere, Minato, Mikoto, Fugaku and Kizashi fought against the enemy.
Minato jumped into the air and tossed several of his own oil bombs. Mikot and Kizashi jumped out of the way, allowing Fugaku to send a fireball into the fray. The flames enveloped a large number of the enemy, and the others scattered like flies. Mikoto used wind style to send the flames at the enemy, capturing them all but a handful, which Kizashi took care of with a few kunai.
The four landed in a charging formation, with Minato taking the southernmost position.
Again, they were surrounded in an instant.
Minato cursed. They had no time for this. Kushina was…
Just before coming here, he had learned the truth. Thanks to Kizashi, who’d snuck into the hokage building after hearing Minato’s name being mentioned by some root anbu, the four of them were aware of the elders’ plot. As for Kushina’s position, he had been told about that years before, after he rescued her from the kumo ninja and was assigned the task of guarding her by the third hokage.
Fugaku, who had lost his temper and lashed out at Kushina, was still angry over Minato and Mikoto’s injuries, which weren’t fully healed yet. Still, they had reported the elders plot to the hokage, who sent the four of them after Kushina after their insistence finally reached him.
Now Kushina was out there, somewhere, all alone.
Minato wasn’t sure he could forgive the elders, but first thing was first.
He jumped backward, kicking one enemy in the throat, and another in the throat. He recoiled from the pain in his leg, and ended up stabbing a man in the head.
Fugaku rushed to his side and had ten of the surrounding enemy down in an instant before jumping away with Minato leanng on his shoulder.
“Minato!” He called. “Are you alright?!”
The wounds around his ribs felt too… gooey. Were they trying to open again? He’d sealed them temporarily with his jutsu, but…
“Hack!” Blood poured out of his mouth, making Fugaku gasp.
“Damn!” He picked Minato up and threw him over his shoulder like a potato sack. “Guys! We’ve gotta get out of here! He can’t take anymore!”
Minato grabbed Fuji’s shirt.
“No! I won’t…”
I won’t runaway! I never quit!
“You’re no good to anyone dead, idiot!” Fuji screamed. “Didn’t ou promise me you wouldn’t pull this!”
He raced back to the others, who were on their last legs as well.
“But… Kushina…” He muttered, vision blurred.
“Don’t worry!” Fuji said, kicking five of the enemy out of the way and landing in a crouch beside Kizashi and Mikoto. “I promise we’ll find her! Have some faith in us!”
He pulled Mikoto into him and gripped Kizashi’s sleeve.
“Minato! Do it now!” He demanded as the surrounding numbers closed in on them.
Minato obeyed and sent them miles away in an instant.
