Okay, so here's part 14. As promised, there is a familiar face. But again this is a realistic fanfiction, where I stick to what happened in the story and try to fill in the holes with my own stuff. Enjoy!
Minato and Kushina history fanfiction part 14
The last of the fifty enemies was dead within the same instant as the others. Minato’s four comrades from Konoha exhaled in relief.
“Wow, so fast…” One remarked, his eyes shaking.
“I told you not to blink or you’ll miss it.” Another laughed. “The yellow flash is magnificent.”
Minato flinched then turned to them. “Stay down!”
The four ducked behind the rocks just as Minato appeared beside them.
“What is it?” The same one who was boasting before asked.
“More enemies.” Minato twirled a kunai in his hand and gripped it. “Very strange chakra.”
The four paled in the face.
“How many?”
“Do we have any chance of winning?”
Minato was honest. “No. You four would probably die in an instant.”
“So what should we do?” One asked, panicking.
“Leave this to me.” Minato told them. “I’ll try to create an opening for you to run. Don’t hesitate, or you’ll all end up dead.”
The four gulped while Minato gripped the marked Kunai. They were still scattered all around the battlefield since these four threw them. Dead from both sides lay everywhere, some in pieces. Minato had succeded in wiping out the last of the enemy in this particular area, only to have this new one show up. But it was fine.
For he had already foreseen this kind of possibility.
Obito, Rin, Kakashi… Have you four reached the bridge yet? He wondered.
He was basically acting as a distraction, attacking the enemy head on while his three students made their way towards towards the bridge which the hidden rock shinobi were using to transport supplies. If they succeeded in destroying it, then the enemy would fall into a crisis and would easily be eradicated.
He hadn’t wanted this sort of mission for them. However, in war, it wasn’t uncommon for genin teams to be entrusted with this sort of work. And anyway, if he went too easy on them, they would never grow. And they needed to grow if they were going to survive here.
Minato jumped up and bombarded the enemy, who was hiding in the trees with paper bombs and waited, all his senses on high alert. In life and death battles, the slightest noise, any hint of fear, any lack of attention could decide the victor.
“The yellow flash… What a surprise.” A voice in the smoke said. “I thought this area was all Rock ninja…”
“So you are not a rock ninja either.” Minato deduced. “Show yourself, I know you’re there. I can see you’re silhouette.”
Someone with shaggy hair and some kind of raggedy old cloak. There was some kind of sound coming from every minimal movement he made. An inhuman rattle… Almost like...
He realized the truth just in time and jumped away before a poisoned needle shot out of the ground. The smoke
cleared, revealing a marionette standing where Minato had seen the silhouette.
“Puppet master.” Minato noted. “I see you favor the crow.”
“Well it is one of my own.”
“Puppet Masters are long range battle types, right? You’ll regret picking a fight with me.”
“You talk pretty big for someone who’s carrying four heavy loads of baggage.”
Minato used wind style to blow the last of the fog away. The Crow was seemingly alone. Minato couldn’t see his master anywhere. The chakra threads had to be there, yet they were probably very thin. Minato couldn’t see or sense them at all.
Still, he thought, going by the puppet design and my previous experience with puppets, the strings are more than likely linked to the joints.
He dashed, disappearing and reappearing by the puppet. It rattled and whirled around, opening its mouth to aim a poison spike at his head. Minato sidestepped and sliced over the Crow’s elbow. A thin, thread-like something was cut.
Bingo.
He was no hyuuga, so this chakra thread would not fall before him, however it could still act like a trail.
He watched it fall, and followed it to the source. Nothing was there, but Minato saw through the genjutsu and kicked
the tree which wavered and disappeared, revealing a red-haired sand shinobi around Minato’s age.
“You saw through the genjutsu so easily.” He remarked. “How…”
“My best friend, an Uchiha, used to spar with me.” Minato answered. “Eventually, in order to defeat him, I trained my own eyes to see through his genjutsu. I did not know Sand Shinobi were fond of Genjutsu.”
He replied. “Its not genjutsu really, though it does have the effects similar to genjutsu.”
“What do you mean?”
“An odorless, tasteless gas…” He answered, eyes gleaming with amusement, “A poison that deceives your eyes. Also
one of my own creation.”
Minato’s eyes widened. Impossible, surely he would have noticed…
“You over estimate yourself.” Said the Sand Ninja as Minato fell to his knees and then his hands. “You shouldn’t be so pigheaded when you’re trying to protect others. It spells your doom. Goodbye.”
“Wait!” Minato coughed.
“My name is Sasori of the Red Sand. I’m sure we’ll meet again, Minato Namikaze.”
Minato gripped his stomach. Ugh, how reckless. This poison was something else… If Jiraiya sensei hadn’t trained him to be immune to most poisons, he’d probably already be dead.
He reached into his pouch and brought out a medicinal seal, prepared by Kushina. They were extremely complicated, and took too much blood and chakra to make. This was the only one
Just use this, if you have to, She’d said. It’ll save you from any drug…
Minato, you must always come home. If your name ends up on the KIA stone, I won’t forgive you!
He slapped the seal over his bare neck and started to relax as the poison was absorbed by it. Getting to his feet, he held his breath and exited the area. He needed to be more careful. Things turned out okay this time, but—
He gasped. A horrible pain shot through his stomach. But not from the poison. This was a gut feeling, a premonition. Something was horribly wrong…
The other three! Obito! Kakashi! Rin!
He disappeared, reappearing several miles away. Rin and Kakashi were surrounded by enemies.
He took care of them all instantly and landed in time to catch Kakashi, who’d fainted. It looked like his eye had been cut.
“Where’s Obito?!” He asked Rin, whose eyes were red and puffy.
She lowered her head, ashamed.
“He’s…”
Minato felt a new kind of pain run through him and quietly pushed it to the back of his mind. He needed to get these two out of here…
He grabbed Rin and disappeared.
It was only hours later that Kakashi woke up.
“Hmm. Looks like he’s awake.” Minato said, poker faced as he let the grief run its course.
“Sensei!” Kakashi bolted up. “Why?”
Minato flashed the marked kunai. “The jutsu here is the type that allows me to hop around using my teleportation jutsu.”
“And… The enemy…?”
“I took care of them.”
Kakashi leaned forward, still worried. “And Rin?! What happened to Rin?!”
Minato pointed at Rin, who was out in the field, her arms crossed behind her as she stared up at the stars. She had shed her tears, and come to terms with the loss. Yet still was not handling this well, as it was her whom Obito had lost his life for, and Kakashi an eye.
She would probably need more time than even Minato.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t in time Kakashi.” Minato said, sincerely regretful. “Rin told me everything.”
Kakashi stared at Rin for a moment, then looked at his hands. Curling his fingers into fists.
“Forgive me, Sensei.” He blinked sadly.
Minato looked at him. “What for? Obito’s death… Was not your fault. And even if it is, I should carry some if not most of the blame.”
“No, it really is all my fault.” Kakashi insisted. “Obito wanted to go after Rin immediately.
But I… insisted the mission mattered more. He and I went our separate ways, and when I finally went to join him, my eye was destroyed.
It was that new blind spot I was too weak to prevent that caused this.
Obito saved me and Rin by sacrificing himself.
It wouldn’t have been necessary if I had just listened to him from the beginning…”
“But you did not sacrifice him and Rin intentionally…” Minato placed a hand on top of his head. “And for that I am proud of you.”
“Why?”
“Because it makes you different from those who believe sacrifices are necessary.” Minato looked up at the stars too, imagining each one of them were those who were killed by their own. “Everywhere, even within Konoha, there are those who will willingly sacrifice their comrades to complete a mission, believing it is the only way. By going to save your friends means you are different from them, and it gives me hope for the future.”
Minato smiled sadly. Kakashi’s actions mirrored his fathers.
And so had Obito’s. They had proven that Danzo didn’t have to be right. Even now, there was still hope for the future generations.
They went on to destroy the Kannabi Bridge together. Kakashi returned to konoha with a sharingan, and was praised as a hero. A few hours later, those who visited the memorial stone would find Obito’s goggles and a bouquet of flowers.
But the war continued, and something worse happened.
