Kakashi's mangekyou sharingan would be one of the best long range jutsu there are.

He could throw 5 of his kunai seals and teleport to anyone in a matter of trilliseconds. Kakashi won't have time to even look.

Kakashi would probably figure out that Minato appeared wherever his kunai landed and try to avoid them. He could also predict where Minato would throw them before he did so with the sharingan. However, they are both known for their incredibe speed and tactical genius

As fast as Kakashi is, there's no way he can keep up with Minato, tactic wise I can't say but speed wise , Minato wins no doubt

Using the sharingan he could predict Minato's movements while engaging in close range combat. He could also use any number of jutsu that he has acquired to attack mid-long range.

Remember what happened to Sasuke vs lee? even tough Sasuke was fast and had sharingan his truly inferior speed prevented him to correctly fight, now imagine when his opponent can appear from like 30 different directions at a speed that far out matches yours, even if Kakashi blocks he is still gonna get the FTG seal, and he does it's game over

I'm nearly a Kakashi fanboy but on that one all he can do is delay his defeat by some momments

At the time sasuke only had a two tomoe sharingan and couldn't predict moves like the third tomoe sharingan. As I said earlier, he would use a lightning clone and possibly come to the conclusion that long range would give him a better advantage since minato is, for the most part, a close range fighter.

I'm not a fanboy really, I'm just showing my idea of what it would probably be like when considering their abilities. As I said earlier in my first comment, it would not be a long battle. As you said, he would inevitably obtain the seal somewhere, and Minato would instantly win. I'm just stating that he would probably sweat a drop or so to do it.
