Akiko has long ashy-blonde hair that is divided into a middle parting at the start of her hairline. From there her fringe splits down either side of her head and extend down into bangs framing her face. At the back of her head her hair extends down to her lower back, dividing off into two braids which then meet again towards the end of her hair.
Akiko also has dull-blue eyes that aren’t especially noticeable and fair skin, when exposed to a large amount of sunlight Akiko breaks out in freckles which cover her face.
Akiko is very small for her age (4ft.9inches) this has led to her receiving the nickname “Little South” since becoming a Shinobi, she also has a skinny frame which would be described as frail by most.

Personality:
Akiko is a very calm person, to the extent that sometimes she seems distant. She is also very kind hearted and loving, she even demanded her father to commission the building of an animal sanctuary in their garden. She is also a strong believer in equality and peace believing that Shinobi wars are unnecessary and barbaric, although she is very naïve and doesn’t fully appreciate or know the reasons for wars in the first place. This naivety leads for her to form her own ideologies and interpretation of the world. (Believing that everyone is as wealthy as her for example)
This naivety stems from her parents and the fellow villagers doting on her and sheltering her from the outside world. Because of the wealthy Minami family’s presence in the village, it’s heavily protected by their money. This led for Akiko to believe the world is also like her small village.
Also Akiko at first is very shy and timid, she is very conscious of what new people thing of her when they first meet, this stems from being around people she knew all her life. It also leads her to create unnecessarily awkward situations in new meetings. This doesn’t last long though, when she feel comfortable around someone she becomes very confrontational and isn’t afraid to speak her mind and often acts shocked and confused when people don’t agree with her opinions.
Akiko also has a curious side to her and is very eager to learn new things and gain new experiences.

Background Info.
History:
Akiko was born into a rich family who had moved from a larger city within the Land of Wind to the small fisherman village in the south of the country called Kankuso. Her family was in the transportation business and wasn’t directly involved in the military side of the country, although they did a lot to financially support the Daimyo. They made this move to give Akiko a good up bringing away from the city life and from uncontrollable variables such as criminals and especially Ninjas.
The village was only small and very basic so Akiko’s father, Kintarou, paid the villagers to build a large house at the edge of the village and this is where the family lived. The Minami family’s arrival at the village greatly changed it, it was often bothered by bandits and criminals, after the arrival of the Minami family it changed into a protected and a buzzing market centre. Many people moved there, increasing the population and Kintarou financed the local fishing trade by investing in independent fishermen and helping them set up small businesses (for a portion of ownership of the business). It wasn’t long till Kintarou owned most of the town, although he treated the citizens fairly and in return he and his family gained a lot of love and their worship.
This led to Akiko being nicknamed “the sweetheart”, also because of her sweet and gentle nature. She was seen as a daughter of the village because all of the villagers simply adored her. All she would have to do is walk down the central market street with her parents and she would be bundled with gifts from local merchants and passers-by. She was also the pride and joy of her parents, especially her father who doted on her. This amount of attention from the villagers always made Akiko feel happy and contented when growing up.
Kintarou was often away on business in the bigger cities and Akiko would spend a lot of time with her mother, she also wasn’t aloud out to play with the other kids without being accompanied by one of her parents. This meant that Akiko often felt lonely and became very curious; she would stand at the gate and look out at the villagers passing by. The building had a front guard at all times called Minuko. Minuko was an aging man who was an ex-ninja from Sunagakure. Akiko would stand at the gate for hours listening to Minuko’s stories from his younger days and his experiences of battle. Six days after her birthday (after a weak of celebrations) Akiko rushed down the path to the gate, eager to see Minuko after a weak of separation. When she reached the bottom of the gate she was confronted by a large woman who had scraggly red hair down to her bulging neck and the biggest wart on her chin that Akiko thought was a bug under her skin. The woman demanded that Akiko returned to the house and never came back to the gate again. Akiko later found out that Minuko has been fired due to his influence on Akiko and his glorification of ninja activities.
From this time onwards Akiko became more and more self-contained, she rarely wanted to go out into the village anymore and became more and more impatient with her father.
When she was 10 she asked her father to take her with him on a business trip, after a long negotiation and a lot of charming from Akiko, Kintarou finally agree. Akiko traveled to several cities within the Land of Wind and the final place they visited was Sunagakure. Akiko fell in love with Sunagakure and it was just like how Minuko described it. The buildings made of sand and the great natural wall that surrounded it. But most of all Akiko was fascinated by the strange people walking around in flak-jackets with forehead protectors on. One night while her father was in a business meeting Akiko snuck out of the hotel and past the guards that were accompanying her. Her aim was to try and find Minuko. She wondered the streets asking anyone she could if they knew someone called Minuko. It wasn’t long before she was noticed missing and found, but in those few hours Akiko had a strange feeling of belonging and freedom.
After the incident in Sunagakure, regulations on Akiko’s freedom were restricted greatly. Kuma, the female door guard was now Akiko’s personal bodyguard and watcher. Kuma was very strict on Akiko and ran her life for her. At this point Kintarou’s business trips became more often and Akiko’s mother became sick.
A couple of years later, 28 days after Akiko’s 12th birthday, when her home was dead and her family torn by her mother’s illness, Akiko ran away. She travelled north for two days through the blistering sun and rapid sandstorm. She then fainted due to dehydration and exhaustion. Akiko woke up in a small room. The room had shabby furniture and wasn’t like her home in Kankuso. As Akiko judged the room the door gently clicked and slowly swung open and in walked Minuko. Minuko explained to her that she was found by a Sunagakure patrol guard and was brought back to the village. Word spread through the village of the strange girl appearing the desert and Minuko felt something in his heart. He decided to go and investigate the strange appearance girl and it turned out to be Akiko. He told them that it was his granddaughter and gave the patrol guard captain a fake name to disguise Akiko’s true origins.
Minuko then listened to the first story Akiko had ever told him, about her mother and father and how she truly felt about being in the village. Minuko at first told her that he had decided to take her back to Kunkuso and to her family, but had changed his mind.
Akiko had also made up her mind about becoming a ninja like Minuko had been and persuaded Minuko to train her. Several months later Akiko enrolled into the ninja academy and graduated after a year, due to Minuko’s advance training and her eagerness to learn.
Akiko had become a Genin and was assigned to a team, Team 23 consisted of three members. Minami Akiko, Sato Akira and Ito Shuji. The group trained under Jounin captain Kikuchi Isume. Sato Akira and Ito Shuji were two young boys who had been raised in the village and had been childhood friends. Akira was very quiet and wasn’t very outspoken and Shuji was the complete opposite and would often have to stick up for Akira. They became Akiko’s first friends her own age.
Isume was a female Jounin with jet black hair. Akiko was very fond of her teammates and her Sensei and they spent a year training together and participating in low ranked missions, her teammates also gave her the nickname "Little South" during this time.
Team 23 was assigned a mission to examine an explosion in a village on the border of the country. The explosion was supposed to be from a factory and they were supposed to assess the damage, but reports weren't clear. When the team arrived it was clear that it was a ploy to capture Shinobi from Sunagakure for negotiation purposes and ninjas from an unknown fraction ambushed the group. Isume sacrificed herself to give her Genin students a chance to escape, although Isume was outnumbered and the Genin were chased down and captured. It all happened very suddenly, both her team mates had been slaughtered in front of her and Akiko and her Sensei were to be held as a negotiation tool for a 1v1 battle with the Kazekage. Isume didn’t give them a chance to propose the idea by exploding the tags that were under her clothes, killing herself and a large number of the enemies, this gave Akiko a chance to escape.
She ran from the village but was followed by the enemies. She wasn’t fast enough to out run them and they soon caught up to her. As a large man was about to grab her in his arms he dropped to the floor behind her. Akiko turned around to look down at his body and it was headless and limp. Akiko hadn’t even seen how it had happened but behind the lump on the floor stood Minuko with the dead man’s head hanging from his hand by his hair. Minuko quickly took care of the remaining ninja and escorted Akiko back to Sunagakure.
It took a while for Akiko to get over the incident but she was pushed forward by Minuko. He had told her that she had Isumes, Shukis and Akira’s will trusted to her and had to become a great ninja because of it. Akiko was entered into that years Chuunin exam and passed it first time.
