Mihawk didn't cut through Croc's gold hook, so I guess Mihawk can't cut gold either. The reason why Croc and Daz could block Mihawk is because he intended to cut flesh, and this applies to the Jozu situation.
Mihawk did a normal slash without trying LOL
It's highly likely that the reason Mihawk was unable to cut Jozu was because he was aiming to cut flesh. A swordsman cut what he wants and not what he doesn't want to. Mihawk wasn't aiming to cut diamond. This kind of thing can be seen when he slashed at Luffy, but Daz's steel body blocked it, only for Daz to be cut down instantly in the very next page. I doubt Mihawk will be unable to cut a consumer of the diamond fruit.
Sure it was a slash aimed at a human but it seems you all forget that person it was aimed at originally wasn't Jozu but WB himself.

Plus right before Mihawk said I wish to see for myself the difference in power between us and that man, if that was his intent as he expressed it to be do you really think he'd have put forth a weak-mid level attempt? That just doesn't make any sense. The fact is Jozu intercepted and deflected an attack from Mihawk that was meant to test WB's strength. Just because he has the title World's Strongest Swordsman doesn't mean there's nothing he can't cut.

I feel like you didn't read a single thing we said. It's not that Mihawk held back, it's that he was aiming to cut flesh, not diamond. The same thing happened when Zoro swung his sword in an arc and cut rock, but his sword just rustled the leaves next to him.

So what? Jozu is more durable than WB.

Again, elaborated how? The entire history & core of this 4 year old theory is Shiryu beating Mihawk cause Mihawk can't cut diamond. That is the reason people think Shiryu will win.
I don't know what you're talking about, diamond had nothing to do with Shililew beating Mihawk theories in the past, not that I've heard of. Now it's a possibility because of recent events.

People have been theorizing that for years because of Daz's comment about Zoro cutting diamond one day, Teach being the main antagonist to Luffy, Shiryu being the main swordsman of his crew, and Teach's crew being enemies with WB's. The only new info is that while people thought the fight that would lead to Shiryu getting the diamond fruit would happen later in the story, it happened during the timeskip instead.

Zoro said it'd be a waste and since Diamond Jozu was introduced I always thought maybe Zoro would try cutting him one day but it never clicked untill now based on recent chapters what Oda is really foreshadowing.

Zoro will surpass Mihawk when he cuts diamond. Nowhere its shown/said that Mihawk can cut diamonds.
same thing will happen wit Luffy. He will surpass Roger when he starts the big war when he finds OP.

Who cares if Zoro said "it'd be a waste?" There's no possible way he'd know whether or not he'd need to cut diamond one day.

Yeah, it didn't click for you till now, but this theory has been circulating for as long as I've been reading One Piece bruh

By your logic I'm supposed to disregard Zoro's comment but listen to Daz's comment that have to do with Zoro? You're contradicting yourself. Usually when characters drop one liners like that you can assume there is some truth to it. Likewise but I never heard anything about the the diamond fruit as it relates to Shililew.

I said that after the combined revelation of Teach's crew, Shiryu, Teach's crew being enemies to WB, Teach's ability to steal DF powers, and Jozu's Diamond fruit being revealed, people have theorized for years that Shiryu will steal the fruit and Zoro will defeat him by cutting diamond.

I said that Zoro's comment that cutting diamond is a waste doesn't really matter because Zoro can't see the future; there's no possible way he can know that there will never come a time when Zoro won't need to cut diamond. What we have over Zoro is a reader's point of view, we know of Jozu's fruit, the role of Teach's crew to the story, and what they can do with Devil Fruits, so Zoro's words can be regarded as ignorant and negligible to the theory.

First of all, Mihawk never attempted to cut diamond for us to assume he can't cut it. Mihawk seemingly wasn't even trying when he initiated his attack, Yet it took the man with hardest defense at MF to block his attack. Further, the attack was one handed slash when it's quite evident that Mihawk uses both the hands which should logically increase the power output by at least two fold. The most ridiculous part in your theory is that you think Shiryu who by portrayal is far weaker than Mihawk and also a swordsman can somehow bypass Jozu's diamond defense and kill him. But, Mihawk of all people couldn't cut through the same shit.

Another thing people needs to realize is that Shiryu displayed no interest in being WSSM. Therefore, there is no reason to believe that he'd go after Mihawk and they gain literally nothing by attacking or fighting Mihawk. Why because even if Shiryu kills Mihawk thanks to diamond fruit, it still doesn't make him the strongest swordsman since he didn't win the battle because of his skill as a swordsman. Mihawk is up there with top tiers of the world which includes people like Shanks,Blackbeard and even Kaido. So, if Mihawk can't beat a diamond fruit user, same applies to most of the top tiers which doesn't make any sense to began with. Not to mention being superior to Mihawk'd kind of put Shiryu on the same level as BB who's reserved for Luffy. As far as I remember there wasn't a time when Zoro's opponent is on the same level as Luffy's in terms of power.

EDIT: I know being a devils fruit user doesn't stop one from being a swordsman but there is a clear difference b/w using your ability in conjunction with yours swordsmanship akin to what people like Law and Fujitora'd do and your the hardness of your body to your advantage. It may make him stronger than Mihawk but it won't be different from Mihawk getting defeated by someone like Kaido or Whitebeard.

As you say we can't know he can't cut diamond because he didn't try, Jozu taking the attack doesn't mean the man with the hardest attack was needed to block it. Mihawk could theoretically cut diamond if he tried, WB theoretically could have stopped that slash if he tried, we can never know. Just playing devil's advocate.

His theory never said the fight had to be 1v1 from start to end and Shiliew has BB to steal DF powers away.

No reason? Not even say BB Pirates betray the WG try to take over and WG sends out Shichibukai and Admiral to stop them and yes they would send them as well, BB's a yonkou and they called in everyone when one Yonkou threatened them already if another did it using the first one's power plus his own of course they're gonna call in all their guns.

You say if he beats him with the fruit it won't matter because it's not pure swordsmanship so he won't get the title but you say earlier he doesn't want the title so which is it? Also if he doesn't want the title then he'll have no apprehensions about beating him with the fruit.

Just because Mihawk can't(theoretically) beat a diamond user doesn't mean the other top tiers couldn't just because he can compete with them. Say Mihawk can't cut Jozu, BB can take his Diamond armor away, Shanks con focus his Conq. Haki at jozu and wear him down if not KO him with a focused attack. That argument doesn't even make sense "these guys are close in power with completely different fighting styles, if guy A can't beat him none of them have much of a chance"

Not saying his theory will happen exactly as he's laid it out but you're reasons against it are all fairly weak.

Yep, it makes perfect sense for this to happen. A lot of people won't like it because they want a Zoro vs Mihawk battle but...I don't see it happening.

The Blackbeard Pirates will square off with Shanks and Mihawk will be there to help prevent Blackbeard getting to Raftel.

Story wise it makes perfect sense for Mihawk to die against Shiliew.
