hm...well i consider mihawk on shanks level. it is indicated they fought several times in the past, so i assume they are kinda equal with shanks being a little bit stronger(kinda like luffy and zoro)

high diff would mean mihawk almost lost, had a hell lot of trouble, got injured a lot etc.... i just cant see that against marco. we have yet to see mihawk struggle against some1.... until now he never really tried.
